About This RoleThis position supports the clinical programs and collaborations within the Biogen Research and Development organization. Individual will lead planning and strategic financial analysis for Program Development and collaborations. The position will report to the Director, R&D Finance.
What You'll DoProgram Development Finance Lead - provide ongoing support, reporting and strategic analysis, including ad-hoc analysis to inform important business decisions.Business Planning - lead Program Development and collaboration forecasting, annual budgeting and long-range planning processes. Work with internal stakeholders to create robust functional financial plans. Provide variance reporting for budget management. Work with leadership teams to suggest ways to prioritize spend to within target. Provide Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) and decision support analytics including the long-range plan (LRP), annual budget (AOP) and quarterly forecasts.Collaboration - support success of R&D alliance goals and ensures productive relationships with partners. Liaise with R&D Leadership, Alliance Management, Legal, Business Development, and program/asset teams to ensure adherence to contract terms and deliverables, including milestones payments and tracking, financial transactions, progress reports. Proactively work to identify and mitigate potential financial risks.Monthly Close Activities - prepare Program Development journal entries and provide monthly variance analysis commentary for WD5 meeting. Responsible for Program Development month-end/quarter-end close, including creation of journal entries, account reconciliations and variance analysis. Ensure Compliance with SOX requirements and BIIB accounting policy and procedures. Maintain control of key areas of balance sheet and support external auditResponsible for Clinical Trial accounting for selected trials. Work closely with clinical financial planners to accurately accrue for clinical trial fees and services
Program Team Finance Lead – finance lead for certain cross-functional development program teams. Attend regular program team meetings and provide ongoing support, reporting and strategic analysis to R&D Program Team leader.Qualifications

- Ability to form strong working relationships both within Finance, R&D Leadership team, clinical business planning, and program teams
- High sense of urgency, results driven and a strong bias for action
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance-related major required
- Minimum of 3-5 years of finance experience
- Life sciences industry experience required
- Knowledge and understanding of U.S. GAAP, and SOX compliance requirements
- Combination of public accounting and private industry
- CPA or MBA a plus
- Familiarity w/Oracle, Hyperion and Business Objects preferred
