About This Role

Biogen's Gene Therapy Department is searching for an individual to act as a technical leader for the Cell Culture Development group. The position entails contributing directly to the support of late-stage programs as well as the implementation of new AAV production technologies to support our growing Gene Therapy pipeline. The candidate will be expected to collaborate with other groups within the Gene Therapy and Research Departments to drive innovation and characterize cell culture process technologies. Success in this position will require the candidate to enable successful AAV manufacturing through small scale development and provide support for regulatory submissions early and late phase programs.

WhatYou’llDo

  • Manage a small team to execute cell culture development studies as well as mentor direct reports and guide their career development.
  • Engage in internal collaborations with other Gene Therapy or Technical Development groups to implement high yielding AAV production systems via inducible producer cell line systems.
  • Contribute to late phase program teams to drive process characterization and relevant documentation in support of PPQ campaigns or regulatory packages.
  • Independently manage technical projects within the team to ensure milestones and timelines are met.Presents findings and/or results to senior management, external stakeholders, and industry peers at conferences
  • Provide technical expertise on cull culture development topics such as adherent vs suspension growth, chemically defined media optimization, perfusion systems, feeding strategies, and scale up.

Who YouAre

You will manage a group of 2-3 employees responsible for implementing novel cell culture processes for early-stage programs as well as characterization of late-stage programs. Yourteam willalso be responsible for scientific and technical innovations to drive development, shorten timelines, and improve production methodologies as the industry evolves.

Qualifications

Required Skill

  • Ph.D. in Bioengineering, Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or related disciplinewith 5+ years' experience in cell culture developmentor bioprocess development.
  • M.S. degree with with 8+ years' experience in cell culture development orbioprocess development.
  • Expertise in adherent or suspension mammalian cell culture techniques, process analytics, process optimization, process characterization, and bioreactor operations
  • Experience with multiple growth strategies including batch, fed-batch and perfusion systems

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with AAV biology and viral vector production systems
  • Experience managing direct reports
  • Proven track record of publications
