Job Description: Our client, a large defense contractor, has an immediate opening for a Linux Systems Administrator to work from their Dedham, MA facility. As a seasoned leader, you'll be involved with our client's decision-making process by serving as a front-line interface to users with technical issues and conducting systems analysis and development to keep systems current with changing technologies. Your duties may include installing new software, troubleshooting, granting permissions to applications and training users. You'll also be responsible for the day-to-day support of server services by performing server administration for physical and virtual server operating systems and configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting of physical and virtual hardware and network related interfaces on servers. We'll rely on you to perform, maintain, troubleshoot and conduct a complete analysis of alerts; create scripts to automate repetitive processes; and work with customers to identify, isolate, and resolve problems with servers that are affecting other services.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent experience is required plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus 6 years of relevant experience.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required within a reasonable period of time. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

  • Advanced Linux/Windows IT system administration experience supporting classified and unclassified environments that use Windows and Linux.

  • Subject matter expert (SME) with the ability to mentor others on administrating the server environment
  • Enhanced troubleshooting skills within the server OS as well as both networking and storage technologies
  • Hands-on experience developing, deploying and supporting large-scale enterprise server solutions

Duties and Tasks:
  • Responsible for managing the functionality and efficiency of a group of computers running on one or more operating systems
  • Maintains the integrity and security of servers and systems
  • Serves as a front-line interface to users with technical issues
  • Makes recommendations for hardware and software purchase
  • Interacts with third-party technology vendors and internal database staff
  • Conducts systems analysis and development to keep systems current with changing technologies

  • The Server System Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day support of Server services
  • Performs Server administration for Server Operating Systems
  • Performs administration of physical and virtualized servers
  • Responsible for the configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of physical and virtual hardware
  • Configures, maintains and troubleshoots network related interfaces on servers
  • Performs OS and vendor software patching on servers
  • Monitors Physical and Virtual Servers performance using monitoring tools
  • Performs, maintains, troubleshoots and does analysis of alerts on Servers
  • Creates scripts to automate repetitive processes
  • Work with customers to identify, isolate, and resolve problems with Servers that are affecting other services
  • Contributes and executes plans, designs, and implements necessary configurations to ensure compliance with back-up and disaster recovery policies, procedures for servers
  • Executes and maintains Security Compliancy processes and policies
  • Develops and maintains Server related standards, policies, and procedures
  • Mentor team in the technology to allow them to be more knowledgeable and self-sufficient
  • Reviews and analyzes performance metrics in order to optimize environment for efficiencies
  • Investigate and provide direction for administration of physical and virtualized servers using industry standard technologies
  • Investigate and provide direction for administration of servers in lab environments that are physical and virtualized using industry standard technologies
  • Researches and troubleshoots Server technical issues and communicates status to Server team and stakeholders
  • Is involved with client's decision-making process
  • Ensures architecture is reliable, flexible, integrated and anticipates future needs anticipates future hardware/software needs to meet future business based on customer requirements
  • Reviews and analyzes performance metrics in order to optimize environment for efficiencies
  • Identifies additional improvement and performance metrics
  • Work with manager in understanding and optimizing team performance
  • Advocates continuous process improvement
  • Leads large sized continuous process improvement efforts
