Agile Scrum Master

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • 7+ years as a Scrum Master/project manager/program manager with dedicated agile teams using Scrum/SAFe.
  • Experienced and adept user of Agile Lifecycle Management tools, particularly JIRA.
  • Communicative and social excellent interpersonal and group facilitation skills including the ability to work with diverse stakeholders and personality types.
  • Relevant undergraduate BA, BS degree in IT or Business or equivalent experience
  • Assertive must be able to ensure agile and scrum concepts and principles are adhered to, and not afraid to be a voice of reason and authority.
  • Willing to able to hold the team accountable to its vision and values.
  • Situationally Aware must be the first to notice differences and issues as they arise and elevate them to team and to management, where appropriate.
  • Attitude of transparency must desire to bring disclosure and transparency to the Product Owner about the team and grow business trust.
  • Creativity, initiative, and flexibility - tempered by pragmatism, patience and attention to detail.

DESIRED (preferred) SKILLS:

  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM), PMI-ACP, SAFe SM preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports and enforces the rules of the scrum process and other rules that the team has agreed upon. e.g. WIP limits
  • Communicates status to customers, team and management as needed
  • Exhibits the behaviors of a Lean-Agile leader with a Lean-Agile mindset. Helps the team embrace core Agile values and principles (SAFe or Scrum or Kanban.)
  • Leads scrum teams for medium to complex deliveries.
  • Leads the team's efforts in relentless improvement and facilitates the team's retrospective.
  • Facilitates all the team's meetings and ceremonies depending on the framework used (SAFe, Scrum, Kanban)
  • Removes roadblocks, many of which will be beyond the team's authority or will require support from other teams
  • Coordinates with other teams and manages cross-scrum team and cross- program/ART dependencies - for example participates in Scrum of Scrum Meetings (for ARTs) and/or other PI Planning sessions and passes information back to the team
  • Coordinates with the System Team, UX, DevOps, Shared Services, security etc.
  • Ensures that goals, scope, and product domain are understood by everyone on the Agile/Scrum Team
  • Ensures the Team understands scrum theory, practices, rules and values.
  • Improves team performance by identifying, managing, and supporting resolution of team impediments
  • Conducts performance appraisals of staff and provides career guidance through regular coaching and mentoring.
  • Displays an engineering mindset and systems thinking while understanding the economic view.
  • Embraces a continuous improvement mind-set and highlights opportunities to improve efficiency of scrum teams
  • Accountable for team's understanding of Scrum and other agile practices and ensures the team is effectively applying these.
  • Serves as Servant Leader/Coach for a maximum of 1-2 Scrum team (6-12 people per scrum team)
  • Understands and operates within the product team budget
  • Responsible for ensuring that the committed to sprint backlog is completed
  • May be required to mentor other Scrum Masters as needed
