HVAC Service Manager - Heating Oil and Propane

Surner Heating Company an HVAC, fuel oil and propane company is looking for a qualified HVAC service manager to oversee HVAC service operations for a mid size service department. The candidate will manage daily service operations including dispatching techs, customer service on incoming calls, billing daily work and responding to customer calls. This position includes managing others in internal service operations, as well as interacting with other department managers. This position requires technical knowledge, as well as the business and cost control of running a service department. We are looking for a candidate with 3 to 5 years experience as a department manager. The compensation package will include salary plus benefits including, medical, dental, paid vacation, sick time, holidays and training. A generous 401k matching retirement plan is also included. Essential Functions:

Responsible for managing the daily activities of the technicians.

Directly supervise and dispatch techs to make sure that all personnel are being utilized efficiently.

Review all callbacks from service & install team members. Coach, train, counsel and motivate as needed.

Create and manage technician schedules, including on-call, holidays, and time off.

Assist in soliciting, interviewing and hiring technicians as needed. Assist in developing and implementing training schedules for all new hires.

Develop and update service policies and lead ongoing training programs with the field staff, sales, and CSR teams.

Perform yearly performance reviews for the service technicians and follow proper procedures in disciplining/terminating non-performing employees as needed.

Meet /talk with customers and service technicians to trouble shoot mechanical issues.

Meet/ talk with customers with questions regarding services performed and bills issued.

Promote equipment upgrade and installations; training field staff what to look for and how to approach the customer.

Work closely with supply house(s) in assuring company needs are met at competitive prices

Work to eliminate trips to suppliers by leveraging delivery services and inventory levels

Shared on call screening of night calls with other service department personnel

Additional Responsibilities:

Facilitate the performance of inventory on all service vehicles two times per year. Determine optimal inventory to be carried, weighing cost and setting the proper inventory levels.

Ensure field technicians maintain a professional appearance and attitude to enhance excellent customer relations.

Ensure service vans have proper inventory, are clean, neat and have basic maintenance performed on a timely basis.

Assist CSR team with feedback to answer customer questions.

Facilitate and support all new programs developed for our service & install teams. Other duties as requested by management.

Requirements (Education, experience, special training, etc.):

Minimum high school diploma

Valid driver's license

Excellent mechanical aptitude

Strong interpersonal skills

Heating and AC license required

5 years previous experience as a service technician

Proven leadership abilities.

Ability to resolve sensitive customer issues

Management experience
