R&D Materials Modelling Scientist – Woburn, MA – Full-time on-site jobThe R&D Materials Modelling Scientist will collaborate with the R&D team to optimize the company's molten oxide electrolysis technology through modeling and hands-on laboratory research. Areas of research include thermodynamic modeling of novel, multi-component molten oxide systems; optimizing existing thermodynamic model systems to incorporate components of interest for the company; and confirming modeling results through laboratory experimentation with DSC, TGA and other techniques. The role is primarily focused on theoretical modeling but also requires considerable hands-on laboratory research.The position offers the opportunity for continued growth in responsibility with acquired experience and demonstrated results. The position requires an individual capable of directing independent research projects and working with an engineering support team to execute laboratory research.Required Experience:

  • PhD (preferred) or Master's degree from accredited university or college in Materials Science Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability and expertise in solutions thermodynamic modeling of multicomponent materials systems.
  • Research experience with calorimetric measurements including DSC, TGA and associated techniques (such as EMF measurements) required to test and interpret modeling results.
  • Proven capability to lead and implement an independent research program, which is typically acquired through successful completion of a PhD program or an MS degree with multiple years of professional research experience.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple research projects concurrently.
Desired Experience & Skills:
  • In-depth knowledge and extensive experience with Factsage
  • Experience with metallurgical slags
  • Electrochemistry research
  • Working with furnaces and laboratory samples at high temperatures (> 1000C)
  • Maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Experience or proficiency with analytical equipment (SEM, XRF, and similar)
  • Working in a chemical fume hood.
Additional Information:You will be working in a small team environment where teamwork and good relationships with other team members is critical. We routinely wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and you should be prepared to do so as well.
