- Client's Integrated Vehicle Systems (IVS) Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Applications Development Engineer to join us in creating the future of mobility as we develop next-generation Automated Driving Systems (ADS) and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). - This role involves on vehicle evaluation of ADS/ADAS with customer-first thinking, partnerships with teams internal and external to Client, and the ability to work iteratively to deliver high quality products to the market. Flexibility and passion are a must. We're a small but scrappy bunch, and we pride ourselves on having fun while developing cool stuff.
- As ADS Applications Engineer in our Automated Performance and Application Department (APAD), you'll bring our next generation product to market. Here's what you'll be doing as a member of our team:
- Vehicle Development: Work with stakeholders across the organization and with the supplier base to deploy features for Series production.
- Create and maintain design specifications for ECU/sensor hardware, functions, HMI, system integration
- Conduct Function and System evaluations on-bench and on-vehicle; Create/maintain test patterns, develop evaluation protocols, setup data acquisition equipment, gather data and analyze.
- Document test protocols, and results. Prepare and maintain evaluation check sheets.
- Analyze and visualize recorded and simulated vehicle data.
- Digital testing using Hardware in the Loop (HILS) and Software in the Loop (SILS).
- Customer first approach: Identify customer needs through data driven assessment of technology, infrastructure, driving environment, market, competitors, and social trends. Propose test cases, procedures, and performance criteria to assess customer satisfaction.
- Negotiate evaluation goals, plan timelines, execute. Monitor issues and key performance indicators for decision making. Engage regularly with stakeholders for alignment.
- Measure objective and subjective data through hands-on vehicle evaluations in closed-track, public-road, and simulated environments. Configure, modify, and troubleshoot test vehicles, sensors, and data acquisition systems.
- Technical storytelling: Distill data to support technical story telling through logical, easy-to-understand, visualization methods. Communicate regularly and proactively with stakeholders and Management toward building consensus.
- Develop software tools: Improve testing efficiencies through automation for data collection, analysis, simulation, bench testing and in-vehicle validation.
- Continuous Improvement: Provide data-driven proposals for feature modifications or improvements to existing systems, centered around the usability and acceptance of ADAS functions.
- Form collaborative partnerships with stakeholders to realize efficiencies through the best use of technology and human resources.
- Bachelor of Science (or, higher) degree in Computer science, Computer engineering, Robotics engineering, Electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent degree.
- Interpreting electrical systems drawings, specifications, manuals, wire diagrams, and standards
- Experience with OBD (On Board Diagnostic) and using CAN (Controller Area Network) tools for diagnoses, trouble shooting, etc.
- Experience setting up sensors and data acquisition systems on vehicle and/or on a test bench.
- Experience in coding using PYTHON, MATLAB, C, etc.
- Good time management and task prioritization skills.
- Clear and concise presentation skills, both written and oral.
- Willingness to work overtime, when necessary, up to 20% of the time.
- Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time.
- A valid US drivers' license.
- Clean driving record.
- Experience with continuous integration tools e.g., Azure DevOps Pipelines, Jenkins.
- Experience using cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) to perform automated data analysis.
- Experience developing application software to facilitate testing and data analysis in a vehicle or simulated environment.
- Experience in developing or evaluating mapping, localization, path planning, and/or control
- Experience in conducting quantitative performance comparisons against benchmark competitors.
- Experience leading in-vehicle evaluation and tuning activities of automated features or systems controlling acceleration, braking, or steering, including benchmarking of several similar systems
- Hands-on experience with ADS sensor calibration, OBD (On board diagnostics), CAN (Controller Area Network) trouble shooting.
- Experience in setup and troubleshooting of sensors and data acquisition systems on vehicle and/or on a test bench, such as with RTK, Vbox, LabView.
- Experience in developing new evaluation methods for new systems or features, including modifying or creating new KPI for ADAS systems
- Experience in leading in-vehicle evaluation and tuning activities of automated features or systems controlling acceleration, braking, or steering, including benchmarking of several similar systems
