In Winter 2024, the ENVIRON 235 GSI posting had 52 applicants.Course DescriptionIn this course, we use an economics lens to study environmental and natural resource problems and the policies designed to address them. We begin with basic microeconomic analysis of a market. We then learn how unregulated markets for pollution or resourceintensive goods can result in social welfare loss and environmental injustice; we identify the behavioral and institutional challenges to effective regulation; and we explore the many policy tools at our disposal. You will become adept at applying economic intuition to all types of questions about the environment.Responsibilities
Aid in drafting exams.
Grader for student midterm exams and final exam
Weekly office hours (2) and occasional ad hoc meetings with students who cannot makeregular office hours.
Attend all lectures
Complete all readings
Required Qualifications
Basic competency in Word and Excel as well as in using course websites.
Successful completion of undergraduate course similar in content to Environ 235 or graduatecourse such as EAS 570 or EAS 575.
Applicant must be in good standing as a graduate student at the University of Michigan. If thelanguage of instruction at a student?s undergraduate institution was not English, he/she mustbe evaluated by the English Language Institute (ELI) for English proficiency and either pass theGSI-OET or have this test waived by the ELI before gaining eligibility for a GSI appointment inLS&A.

Experience in courses on environmental policy, economics, and/or ethics is desired
