Food Gatherers is the food bank and food rescue program serving Washtenaw County. Food Gatherers is seeking a full time Food Runner/Driver for a full-time, Tuesday-Saturday schedule. I. JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Transportation Coordinator, the Food Runner drives a truck to pick up and deliver food and other items, participates in significant customer service interactions, has loading and unloading duties, and is responsible for various warehouse tasks and documentation. The Food Runner represents Food Gatherers to all stakeholders in accordance with the established guidelines and values.

II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

o Maintains safety as the top priority at all times.

o Delivers food safely from supply location to end user.

o Ensures that the food maintained in proper condition and at proper temperatures.

o Operates vehicles/equipment safely and in accordance with policies and applicable laws.

o Uses safe work practices during the receiving and delivery processes.

o Segregates and disposes of non-conforming food.

o Supports the warehouse functions such as product prep and staging, as well as various paperwork.

o Records required data such as temperatures, poundage, vehicle inspection data, cleaning/maintenance, accurately and in a timely fashion

o Provides feedback to supervisor on non-conforming or unusual situations at supplier or current sites.

o Responsible for safe operation as well as loading and unloading of company vehicles.

o Communicates with the Transportation Coordinator in regard to

o Daily activities

o Suggestions for process improvements

o Provides training to volunteers and co-workers as required.

o Inspects company vehicles before and after usage and documents the findings as directed and required by all applicable laws, statutes and regulations.

o Provides excellent service to donors and agency representatives.

o Follows established warehouse and documentation procedures for product receipt, handling and rotation.

o Assembles agency orders of donated goods for delivery and pick up.

o Assists on-site Pantry Shoppers with product selection and check-out as needed.

o Performs cleaning tasks as assigned.

o Checks email daily and responds in a timely fashion.

o Complies with the organization's policies and procedures, work rules, safety requirements, quality standards, and applicable local, State, and Federal laws, traffic regulations, and industry guidelines.

o Performs other related duties and responsibilities as needed and assigned.

IV. QUALIFICATIONS

Education / Training

o High School Diploma or GED

Experience

o Some warehouse or delivery experience required

o Licenses / Certifications

o Valid driver's/chauffeur's license required by the Michigan Department of Transportation;

o ServSafe Food Safety Handler Certification (within 6 months of hire);

o Warehouse Equipment Certification (forklift, pallet jack)

Physical Demands

o Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, repetitively lift and carry up to 50 lbs., perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment, use fingers and hands to manipulate objects

Working Conditions

o Includes driving a truck in local area traffic and working in warehouse environments. May include working inside/outside working around machines with moving parts and moving objects, radiant and/or electrical energy.

o Straight trucks

o Warehouse - pallet jacks, forklifts, cardboard baler, pallet wrapper, powered dock plates, floor cleaner, hand trucks, carts

o Office - MS Word, MS Excel, Google Apps, Primarius, copiers, printers, personal computers
