Role Summary: The IT&S Portfolio Manager role reports directly to the Sr. Mgr. Enterprise Portfolio & Vehicle Sales. This role is responsible for leading the enterprise portfolio management process, ensuring the alignment of business and IT prioritization, governance and success measures of the enterprise portfolio process. Working across the brands and countries that comprise the Volkswagen Group of America / North American region, this role achieves synergies and efficiencies within the enterprise portfolio. The IT&S Portfolio Manager works closely with executive level management teams outside the IT domain to translate business strategy into actionable IT initiatives that align to enterprise business goals and objectives. This role ensures the needs of the business and IT are identified, prioritized, communicated and governed through a multi-year planning process. Identifying and implementing key process improvements within the enterprise portfolio process are integral to this role. Responsibilities also include working cross functionally within the IT organization to ensure transparency to support demand planning, resource management and IT lifecycle planning activities.

Role Responsibilities: Strategy and Leadership - 20% of time
  • Working across the brands and countries that comprise the Volkswagen Group of America / North American region, this role achieves synergies and efficiencies within the enterprise portfolio through via their knowledge, experience, business / IT acumen and interpersonal skills.
  • Working closely with executive level management teams outside the IT domain, the IT&S Portfolio Manager translates business strategy into actionable IT initiatives that align to enterprise business goals and objectives.
  • Use business architecture concepts (business capabilities, goals, strategy, and processes) to establish the future of the IT enterprise portfolio.
  • Create executive level deliverables to gain leadership buy in and decision regarding the future of the IT enterprise portfolio
Manage Portfolio Process - 60% of time spent
  • The Portfolio Manager will work closely with business and finance stakeholders and with the IT&S Project Management Organization (PMO) to identify, evaluate and prioritize initiatives based on timing, initial cost estimates and resource requirements across the brands and countries that comprise the Volkswagen Group of America / North American region.
  • Works with stakeholders to establish cost budget baseline(s) and the selection criteria which will include Return on Investment (ROI) and strategic importance for the business based on available budget and financial priorities.
  • Lead the annual call for projects across brands and functions within the organization; ensures the needs of the business and IT are identified, prioritized, communicated and governed throughout the multi-year planning process
  • Regularly communicates and updates stakeholders regarding the portfolio management process.
Portfolio Maintenance and Continuous Improvement - 20% of time
  • Leads / coordinates the process of evaluating and prioritizing new initiatives to determine strategic importance and urgency, timing, initial cost, and resource requirements.
  • Works cross functionally within the IT organization to ensure transparency to support demand planning, resource management and IT lifecycle planning activities.
  • Ensures data integrity and continuity when updating the IT enterprise portfolio; maintains the data of record for the IT enterprise portfolio
  • Leading and establishing the portfolio management process (establishing meeting cadence, review / approval processes) and other necessary governance and performance measures
  • Communicates approved projects and provides regular updates to stakeholders
  • Evaluates and leads the review and selection process for tools/vendors used to perform portfolio maintenance tasks
  • Identify and implement business process improvements for the IT portfolio process
  • Leads enterprise IT KPI management; identifies KPIs to help manage and mature the enterprise portfolio process and tools

Qualifications:

Years of Experience:
  • 10+ years relevant portfolio management experience

Education - Required:
  • B.S. in business, technology management or information systems related discipline

Education - Desired:
  • M.S. or MBA

Skills:
  • Influencing, negotiating and leadership skills
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, and coordination of people and resources
  • Understand business challenges, and is in a position to articulate business needs and to translate them into portfolio priorities
  • Building and Managing relationships with stakeholders; finding common ground for collective gains
  • Understand enterprise strategies, capabilities and processes across the organization; aligning synergies and influence laterally and vertically
  • Analytical and conceptual thinking - ability to use logic and reason to navigate shifting priorities

Specialized Skills -

Required:
  • Applicable experience in portfolio planning, reporting, prioritization and budgeting
  • Ability to succinctly describe business architecture; aligning business goals to IT initiatives
  • Provide recommendations for strategic direction on maturing portfolio concepts
  • Influencing both within the department and greater organization regarding the future of IT initiatives
  • Preparing deliverables to gain leadership buy in and decision on IT enterprise portfolio
  • Knowledge of portfolio planning and tools / analysis
  • Knowledge of financial analysis, budget management and basic accounting controls and processes
  • KPI Management; identify KPIs to help mature, track and manage development from initiation to implementation
  • Helping supported business units to identify KPIs, and govern performance
  • Experience with SharePoint tools, excel, use of pivot tables

Specialized Skills - Desired:
  • Knowledge of business IT planning, alignment and delivery
  • Automotive industry experience
  • Knowledge of SAFe and enterprise prioritization
  • Consistent processes for portfolio planning
  • Management consulting background
