Role Summary:
  • Under the supervision of the Manager, Web Technologies & Middleware VWGoA (Volkswagen Group of America) this role implements, maintains standards and procedures to protect the integrity and availability of Web Infrastructure. This is a Senior architect and lead engineering role for Web Infrastructure with regular interaction with Business partners and Vendors. The position can require participation in escalations with service provider to resolve infrastructure problems/issues, and will be expected to provide technical leadership and guidance to Plan, Build and Run teams.
  • In addition to verifying organizational compliance with established policies and procedures, this role will also provide Subject Matter Expertise with hands-on-experience in hybrid multicloud computing on the Web/OpenShift platform as a service and work to continuously improve the DevOps pipeline and tooling to provide active management of the continuous integration deployment and Daily operation processes for not only in VWGoA but also for North American Region.

Role Responsibilities: Main responsibility - assign 70% of time spent This Principal Integration Architect will be responsible for the overall Design and Lifecycle/Upgrade planning of a complex Web infrastructure based on business driven projects and capacity. The primary scope of this position will be to lead the strategic planning and build activities supporting the overall Web Architecture and operational efficiency supporting a large portion of the applications run by Volkswagen Group of America, the national sales organization servicing the U.S. and Canada.
  • Plan, architect Lifecycle planning, and upgrades of the Web infrastructure based on capacity and business driven projects.
  • Informs management and provides recommendations for mitigation of potential bottlenecks or single-points of failure within the environment that may affect system performance or availability.
  • Works with infrastructure product vendors, VWGoA Infrastructure, and Enterprise Architects to implement Web infrastructure improvements, and new products and technology.
  • Performs as a technical subject matter expert in the development of highly complex, innovative and cost effective Integration solutions.
  • Will be expected to interface with service providers to communicate new architecture standards and perform regular audits.
  • Analyze and understand the organization's environment and architecture.
  • Works with Web product vendors, VWGoA Infrastructure, and Enterprise Architects to implement modern Web infrastructure improvements, and new products and technology.
  • Design Disaster Recovery architecture to BIA specifications and audit DR tests performed by VWGoA Operational teams for Web Infrastructure.
  • Develops best practice techniques for Web environment, supporting an Automation First mindset and mentors the team in these activities.
  • Perform Application assessment of new and existing applications to evaluate application dependencies ( Hardware,OS,DB, Network, Storage) and correlated resources from the ( Wintel, Web, VDI) teams to provide a stable, and fully manageable, virtualized architecture
  • Evaluates and certifies Web technologies, while assisting in the management of vendor relationships and the definition of vendor product feature sets.
  • Ensures Web security controls meet internal and external audit and compliance requirements.
  • Supports service providers to troubleshoot complex Web infrastructure issues within prescribed service levels.
  • Implements Web technologies based on Integration for global standards, data classification, and data privacy according to regulatory guidelines.
  • Responsible for designing and developing Reference Architecture diagrams to help standardize Web Infrastructure landscape.
Additional responsibilities - assign 15% of time In addition to his primary responsibilities, the Senior Web Architect will draw on his subject matter expertise to help drive continuous improvements in Web operational team activities, as well as to integrate with other information technology teams to improve overall operational efficiencies by identifying areas of improvement, automation opportunities and eradication of technical debt in the environment.
  • Will be expected to interface with operations service provider to communicate new architecture standards and perform regular audits.
  • Should be able to provide effective and timely solutions in a very fast-paced environment where multitasking and attention to detail is critical.
  • Will be responsible to audit third-party providers for compliance with VWGoA policies as needed.
  • Serve as SME in Cross-Functional IT team
  • Apply experience, technical knowledge and innovative techniques to resolve complex Operations challenges, and develop innovative solutions to address business needs.
  • Inspire, educate and mentor more junior engineers, helping them grow and build a solid foundation and a cross-trained team.
Regional and Global responsibilities (15%) Volkswagen Group of America is part of a larger group of companies that operate as a team in the North America Region (NAR). The goal of this team is to draw on best practices and synergies across the broader group. The Senior Web Architect will be called on to perform some activities and offer guidance in his area of expertise to other group companies in the NAR.
  • Will be asked to evaluate infrastructure in other regional companies and provide guidance and assist in developing regional reference architectures.
  • May be asked to assist other companies in the NAR to develop automation, operational best practice techniques, or assistance with troubleshooting Web architecture and Operational issues.
  • Will be asked to engage with 3rd party vendors to consult on Web Infrastructure topics in the NAR.
  • May be called upon to perform any task performed for VWGoA in a regional capacity.

Qualifications:

Years of Experience:
  • 10-15 Years

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in technical field or degree in non-technical field with equivalent real life experience in Web Technologies - required
  • Master's degree or equivalent real life practical experience - desired

Skills:
  • Analytical and conceptual thinking - using logic and reason, creative and strategic
  • Communication skills - interpersonal, presentation and written
  • Computer savvy - skilled in the use of software
  • Problem solving

Specialized Skills:

Required:
  • Understanding of core IT concepts.
  • Experience with automated-build systems and configuration management tools including DevOps tools
  • Expert level knowledge in Script development (Automation tools.)
  • Expert level Knowledge of designing and implementing High Availability and Web-based solutions
  • Experience with design, implementation, and management of multiple environments with components across all integration layers
  • Experience in implementing web operational automation activities and ability to identify performance issues.
  • Advanced experience with WebSphere technologies,
  • Advanced knowledge of JSP, Servlets, LDAP technologies
  • Expert level knowledge of DevOps tools like SVN, Jenkins and Maven.
  • Expert level knowledge of SDLC knowledge on managing complex programs and projects.
