Working/Functional TitleAssistant/Associate/Full Professor Tenure SystemPosition SummaryCharles Stewart Mott Department of Public Health seeks candidates for multiple tenure-track positions to continue expansion of a highly successful and rapidly growing multidisciplinary academic program of public health centered in Flint, MI. Position openings are at all ranks. The goal is to expand a strong, energetic cohort of public health research faculty and teaching faculty who are dedicated to academic excellence, research and instruction that improves the health and well-being of the communities around them. Funding for these new positions is provided by a $25 million grant from the C.S. Mott Foundation, as well as the Michigan State University Global Impact Initiative. Both 12-month and 9-month appointments are possible, and generous start-up packages are available.To build academic expertise that is optimally responsive to the public health needs of the Flint community, the program seeks candidates in the following areas:

community-based participatory research, implementation science, health communication, and/or health policy research.

prevention research and/or work with families across the life span.

intervention and health services research; and

health psychology, including social, clinical, or developmental approaches.

Identified areas of need include research and instruction to address substance abuse, mental health, smoking, obesity, maternal and child health, chronic diseases including cancer and cardiovascular illness, stress and coping, prevention/detection health behaviors, health disparities, sexually transmitted infections, access to care, and social and built environmental determinants of health including violence, safety, education, poverty, and unemployment. Individuals with expertise in the social determinants of health (SDOH) for African American, Hispanic and Native American populations are of particular interest. In the context of recent challenges in Flint, there is also interest in expertise related to adverse childhood experiences/toxic stress mitigation, developmental neuroscience, nutrition, environmental health, community readiness, or related topics under the Pediatric Public Health Initiative.We seek researchers and teachers who are, or soon will be R01-level principal investigators with a commitment to the health and well-being of underserved populations and communities. Faculty will be based in the Charles Stewart Mott Department of Public Health. While based in Flint, faculty will be expected to collaborate across multiple disciplines at MSU and with health care and health system leaders to improve health and advance the delivery of care across diverse populations and engage with our community partners.
