Follows the guidelines and procedures laid out by the Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG) Multi Year and Opportunity Youth Dropout Prevention Program. What a typical day as a Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates Specialistmight look like:Responsible for teaching students in a classroom setting. Uses teaching techniques to provide work-based learning experiences that will lead to career advancement opportunities.

Provides appropriate curriculum and ensures students achieve specific school driven competencies through classroom instruction; teaches by using a variety of methods including lectures, hands-on activities, and team teaching.

Organizes, creates, and implements new projects while evaluating and improving the existing services.

Ensures an appropriate pool of students by directly recruiting students and obtaining referrals from an Advisory Committee, school personnel, and parents; holds interviews with prospective candidates and those making referrals to determine, using JAG guidelines, the appropriateness of the prospective student for the program.

Tailors the program and teaching methods for the needs of each specific student and implements an intervention strategy for each individual.

Case Management for all students, responsible for follow up services for past participants and employer outreach.

Monitors, evaluates, and records program activities and program effectiveness.

Mentor youth by providing assessments, job leads, advice, direction, structure, and support.

Tracks the number of students served, services delivered, and outcomes achieved in the JAG Electronic National Data Management System (e-NDMS).

Integrates students into the Michigan Works! system to maximize resources available to them.

Purchase materials required to administer the classes.

Maintains an inventory of all office and instructional supplies as required.

May serve as a proctor for certifications, assessments, and exams.

Attend required internal and external meetings

This job might be an outstanding fit if you:Bachelor's degree in education, social sciences, business, vocational education, or related field.

Possession of a full-year BASIC Substitute permit

Three (3) years of professional experience in K-12 education.

Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with strong oral and written communication skills.

Experience with curriculum development alignment and integration and outcomes assessment.

Experience and interest in alternative instructional methods, including innovative use of technology for learning and instruction

Experience with assessments (Comprehension Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS), Testing Adult Basic Education (TABE).

Must possess good organizational skills and be able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

Ability to appropriately use and demonstrate proficiency at the Basic level of MS Word and Excel, including web-based software and resources.

Preferred experience but not required:Master's degree in related field or an equivalent mix of related education and experience that demonstrates competency requirements for this position

Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with strong oral and written communication skills

Experience with curriculum development, alignment and integration and outcomes

Assessment.

Experience and interest in alternative instructional methods; including innovative use of technology for learning and instruction

Experience with adult education assessments (Comprehension Adult Student Assessment

System (CASAS); Testing Adult Basic Education (TABE).

A current and valid State of Michigan Teaching Certificate in elementary or secondary education

Three (3) years of professional experience in K-12. Education.

Strong customer service skills to effectively address the needs of students, customers, faculty, staff and the general public

Ability to maintain confidentiality on all information regarding student, staff, and faculty communications and personal information.

Ability to work with accuracy with minimum supervision.

Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing

Willing to take accountability for and ownership of work, job, and office operations; dependable and reliable.

Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing work situations that may include evening and weekend work assignments, and local/regional travel.
