Position Summary:Seasonal field technicians will be responsible for preparing for and conducting surveys for bumble bees, butterflies, and other rare insect species throughout Michigan; collecting data and compiling species lists; providing descriptions of survey areas: capturing GPS data including survey locations of rare species and survey tracks; taking quality photos, documenting populations of rare insect species using MNFI field forms or other specified monitoring data applications; collecting and labeling voucher specimens of new records; reporting findings at weekly or biweekly intervals; transferring data to excel spreadsheets; and writing summary reports of work accomplished. There will be travel statewide and potential for field work in Ohio and Indiana.We are seeking applicants that are available during late April through the end of September and may be able to accommodate those who are only available for a shorter time frame, or may be able to support work into OctoberPosition Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call.Desired Qualifications

Background in Entomology and experience conducting field surveys for bumble bees.

Have a strong work ethic.

Ability to work independently in remote areas.

Ability to navigate in the field via map, compass, and GPS.

Understanding of and ability to implement Civil Rights principles and compliance standards.

Ability to lift and carry educational materials, equipment, etc. up to 25 lbs.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Travel in local and surrounding communities and occasional long-distance travel are required as a regular part of this position.

Ability to stay in hotels or campgrounds for up to a week at a time.

Proficiency in use of technology (e.g., web research, Zoom, Qualtrics, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook for mail/calendaring, distance technology, etc.).

Other skills and/or physical abilities required to perform duties of the position.
