Job Description
As a Functional Safety Engineer your job responsibilities will include:
- Lead "functional safety" efforts for powertrain applications (engine controls, hybrid controls, transmission controls)
- Drive activities to create project specific functional safety requirements according to ISO 26262 (ECU software and hardware, system components).
- Calibrate electronic control unit parameters based on functional safety requirements and component specifications.
- Analyze electronic control unit software configuration and create/update safety monitoring calibration configuration.
- Assess safety monitoring software and calibration performance in-vehicle.
- Analyze issues and provide feedback for potential solutions.
- Performsafety relevant validation tests such as fault insertion testing of safety relevant components, vehicle reaction tests, etc.
- Plan/coordinate/track all validation activities related to functional safety (powertrain) according ISO 26262, in all relevant phases of the project.
- Document allactivities for the safety case (project specific proof of functional safety according to e.g. ISO26262), according to the safety plan.
- Discuss functional safety related topics with the customer.
- Provide regular reporting to project team and management.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s Engineering degree in mechanical, electrical or control systems.
- Knowledge about safety engineering, safety processes and safety standards in the automotiveindustry (e.g. IEC 61508, ISO 26262).
- 3+ years of automotive systems engineering experience in the industry or qualifying student projects.
- A valid driver’s license
Preferred:
- Master’s Engineering degree in mechanical, electrical or control systems.
- 2+ years’ experience with methods and tools for system and/or software development for embedded controls, e.g. Matlab Simulink.
- Strong background in hybrid vehicles, combustion engine, or electric drive.
- Experience with working in a customer facing role.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills, detail oriented, flexible, fast learner.
- Excellent communication skills with professional and positive attitude, knowledge to work in a global development team.
