Job Description

Robert Bosch Automotive Steering LLC is looking for a Mechanical Project Leader (Mech PL) at our Plymouth, MI location.

The Mech PL will utilize a strong foundation of mechanical engineering, program leadership and project management skills to lead the development and application of an Electronic Power Steering (EPS) system for customer applications.

Responsibilities

This position includes technical project management responsibilities of the mechanical portion ofan EPS system. The Mech PL will work directly with a comprehensivedevelopment team including mechanical design engineers, test engineers, project managers, plant project leaders, purchasing and quality to develop project specific solutions for driver assistance and/or automated driving technologies.

The Mech PL acts as one of the technical counterparts to the project manager and is responsible for ensuring the technical team understands and fulfills the customer’s EPS requirements on time, with focus on the mechanics.

This role will lead and plan a local and global multi-disciplined team of engineers in a project(s) from start to finish and will be responsible for:

  • Development activities for A-C samples (BOM, drawing, etc)
  • Product and component validation and PPAP
  • Fulfillment of project targets (on time, on spec, on cost, on budget) for allmechanical components and testing
  • Implementation of all product requirements, especially reliability and NVH
  • Support Bosch plants with manufacturability and ability to deliver a quality product
  • Preventive quality assurance (e.g. D-FMEA, DRBFM) and risk management
  • Establishing, cultivating, and maintaining a positive customer relationship as technical and engineering lead, focused on the mechanics
  • Ensuring system development, validation, and delivery are according to guidelines and processes (e.g. ISO26262, ASPICE, IATF 16949)
  • Regular reporting of project status (technical, budgetary, etc.) to management
  • Supporting acquisition, continuous improvement, and cost reduction efforts

This position will require occasional travel, up to 10% of time, domestic and/or international.

We are looking for engineers

  • That are highly self-motivated and have the willingness to dive right into the exciting mechatronic world of EPS
  • With strong written/verbal communication and presentation skills to discuss issues and solutions with the team and the customer
  • Able to structure, moderate and promote collaboration with international teams, negotiate with customer, and support the global organization
  • With proficiency in creating and managing project development schedules
  • Willing to work in a structured fashion with strong analytical skills that supports a systematic approach to problem resolution (8D, Red X, etc.) and strong communication skills to discuss challenges with global development teams and customers.
  • Have a thorough, hands on, understanding of the product development life cycle
  • With experience on a safety critical product (ISO 26262)

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or technical field
  • 3 years of full-time mechanical engineering experience
  • 2 years of experience interfacing with supply base for design evaluation and problem resolution

Preferred:

  • 5+ years of experience in Automotive Product Development
  • Master of Science in Engineering or related technical field
  • Mechatronic systems experience
  • Knowledge of driver assistance technologies and functions
  • Experience with vehicle and system test and release procedures in automotive or related industry.
  • Hands on experience with Agile development methods (SCRUM, Kanban, Lean, etc.)
