Job Summary The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will participate in the implementation and evaluation of patient care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. The Medical Assistant (CMA) functions within the administration pre-defined scope of practice guidelines per state location of practice. LPN: The LPN ensures the health, comfort and safety of patients. The LPN documents a thorough medical history from patient. Contributes to the assessment of patients and administers medications or treatments as ordered. The LPN provides technical support to healthcare professionals as needed. Counseling patients and family members, under the direction of a registered nurse, on prevention and treatment plans. The LPN demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge and utilizes appropriate age and population specific standards as designated in their assigned clinical setting. CMA: The CMA in the ambulatory care setting collects subjective and objective health status data from the patient or caregiver and communicates this data to the health care provider. The CMA participates in the care of patients by providing contributing data to licensed health care professionals; and following through on the patient's plan of care under the direction of the provider. Communicates the provider's written instructions for care to the patient, or caregiver, by transmission of specifically defined information. The CMA will participate in care for patients, across the lifespan, in all phases of preventative care, health maintenance, treatment, and follow-up as patients move in and out of care settings. The CMA performs a variety of duties under the direct supervision of a person licensed to practice medicine. A sampling of the specialized clinical duties performed includes, but is not limited to, obtaining vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, observing and reporting patient's signs or symptoms, and performing point of care testing.

Qualifications

LPN: Must have graduated from a school or college of nursing program leading to licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Associate's degree in practical nursing is preferred. Specific services/positions may have additional education, training or experience requirements. Must have attended a pre-licensure nursing program that included supervised clinical experience across the life span as part of the curriculum or have had a minimum of 400 hours of experience as a RN (or LPN) at another facility. Requires current licensure as a practical nurse in the state/states of practice.

CMA: High school diploma; some college preferred. Successful completion of Medical Assistant course. Must maintain national Medical Assistant certification.
