BI Architect (Power BI -Azure) Remote 6-month Contract to hire Summary: The Power BI Developer is a member of the Applications Group's Information Management team and reports to the Manager of Business Intelligence. This team is responsible for the development and delivery of production reporting, BI tools and ad hoc data analysis for a wide variety of departments including Sales and Marketing, Finance, Customer Service and Supply Chain. Working with Business Systems Analysts as well as Data Engineers, the Power BI Developer will learn the business needs, identify data sourcing and develop the data models to provide our management teams and partners with the necessary tools to ensure sustained performance and quality across the entire organization. We recognize the value of timely, insightful and actionable information and are committed to the development and delivery of this strategic asset every day. We are now putting into high gear the migration of our BI and Analytics capabilities to Microsoft Azure Data Services and the PowerBI platforms. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work with BSAs and business users directly to understand requirements and identify proper approaches to sourcing and modeling data
  • Extensive use of PowerBI to develop reports, dashboards, analysis tools and embedded data visuals for our eCommerce and mobile applications.
  • Utilize Transact-SQL to source information as well as PowerQuery (M) and DAX to transform various data sets into enterprise models and application specific solutions.
  • Work with Azure Data Engineers and BI team members as well as analysts throughout the company to develop data flows and shared data sets for use by others to create PowerBI reports
  • Lead the PowerBI discovery and stay abreast of the latest capabilities especially those related to Microsoft D365, Azure Data Lake and Azure Synapse integration
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • 3-5 year experience with Transact-SQL including writing stored procedures and query performance tuning
  • Experience using DAX to create aggregate measures and complex formulas in PowerBI
  • Exposure to PowerQuery (M) to load and transform data into required models
  • Basic understanding of PowerBI administration, security and basic governance
  • Curiosity and excitement about new features and functionality in a platform that is evolving rapidly including keeping track of monthly updates and sharing ideas and insights with BI and Analytics teams
  • Ability to communicate well at various levels of the organization and make data and technology less intimidating and more fun.
Education and/or Experience:
  • BS/BA degree or equivalent
    • Bachelor's Degree in Technology or Business-related discipline preferred
  • 3-5 Years' experience with SQL Server, SSRS, SSIS or ETL concepts within enterprise reporting and BI teams
  • 2+ Years of PowerBI experience preferably in an enterprise capacity working with large data sets and multiple users/audiences
