Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

To plan, release, schedule, expedite and monitor materials required for production; manage daily inventory and schedules; analyze, coordinate and communicate detailed production planning material requirements. This role keeps track of inventories and assessing the time limits on how long the inventory will stay in stock. Ensures maximum productivity throughout the plant floor. Purchase, plan, and coordinate delivery for various materials used in production of products from raw to finish. Meet with suppliers regularly to discuss delivery and quality issues.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities of this position shall consist of, but not be limited to, the following:

SCHEDULER:

  • Maintain record of current and future inventory.
  • Coordinate schedules throughout the plant floor.
  • Types out daily schedules for the Plant Manager and Shift Managers.
  • Arrange for delivery, assembly, and distribution of supplies and parts in order to expedite flow of materials and meet production schedules
  • Requisition and maintain inventories of materials and supplies necessary to meet production demands.
  • Review documents such as production schedules, and work orders to determine materials requirements, and material priorities.
  • Revise production schedules when required due to design changes, labor or material shortages, backlogs, or other interruptions, collaborating with management, and production.

BUYER:

  • Contact internal and external suppliers to verify shipment details.
  • Research and evaluate price, availability, quality, and warranties (as applicable).
  • Place purchase orders for supplies, equipment, and services needed; keeping blanket orders in place for long lead time items, and new projects as they arise regarding inventory and new supply requirements.
  • Work diligently to verify that all items required for production, maintenance, and packaging will arrive in sufficient timeliness to meet production schedules.
  • Maintain minimum levels of inventoried items in order to accommodate insufficient warehouse space.
  • Identify what is required to package product on the production schedule; verify inventory needs.
  • Purchases all materials, equipment, supplies, and services for the plant in accordance with prescribed purchasing regulations and procedures.
  • Ensure all requirements are accurately entered into SAP - producing purchase orders and/or stock transfers.
  • Communicative with vendors to order or release supplies ensuring weekly schedule demands are met on time.
  • Works with logistics to arrange transportation (as needed).
  • Check outside inventories each week as to what is warehoused at supplier’s facilities.
  • Place orders for items that require longer lead times such as film and caddies. Keeps in contact with suppliers that have longer lead times to ensure materials are produced on time.
  • Negotiate component pricing, order, release blanket purchase orders and schedule deliveries to ensure production schedules are achieved while maintaining acceptable inventory levels.
  • Review purchasing and receiving records; process invoices in a timely manner and ensure that discounts (if applicable) are applied.
  • Works closely with Accounting (A/P) to ensure invoices are accurate; research and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Verify large swing items at period end.
  • Contact suppliers on bad items and ensures that it is sent back, with the proper credit received.
  • Meet with vendors on a regular basis to discuss issues (i.e., bad supplies, outdated materials, new projects, shipping problems, etc.)
  • Receive inventory and supply requirements from appropriate supervisors on a weekly basis (as needed).
  • Set-up new vendors.

GENERAL:

  • Knowledge of plant terminology.
  • Carry out responsibilities in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Monitor work processes, in order to assess completeness to standards and specifications.
  • Compile information, such as production rates and progress, materials inventories, materials used, so that status reports can be completed.
  • Confer with establishment personnel, vendors, and customers to coordinate production and to resolve complaints or eliminate delays.
  • Confer with department supervisors and other personnel to assess progress and discuss needed changes.
  • Provide documentation and information to account for delays, difficulties, and changes to cost estimates.
  • Performs all duties in an independent manner.
  • Follow Lean Manufacturing Processes; team building, consistency in high quality, preventative maintenance, good work place conditions, productive work, etc.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and organized work area.
  • Immediately report all accidents and deficiencies to the management
  • Perform all duties within OSHA and company safety standards; wear PPE and maintain safety equipment (as applicable).
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) training, along with company pre-requisite programs, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), and Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures (SSOP’s).
  • Is flexible to work hours beyond and/or outside regular schedule to ensure proper coverage for the position when needed. Performs duties in an independent manner with minimal direction.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as necessary

Qualifications

Required Education, experience, & skills:

  • High School diploma
  • 3-5 years of scheduling experience in a food manufacturer

Preferred Education, experience, & skills:

  • Associates degree
  • Previous buying or scheduling experience, in a food manufacturing plant (purchasing meat)

A High School Diploma or GED is equivalent to two years of experience

An Associate’s Degree or higher can be taken into consideration for 2 years of experience

WORK ENVIRONMENT:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work environment is a plant / office setting with varying degrees of temperatures and noise levels. Exposure to manufacturing equipment movement and wet / slippery floors. Travel may be required.
