Join our team and help us make a positive difference to the University as a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE). SRE’s are a bridge between development and operations and apply a software engineering mindset to infrastructure services. The SRE position will be focused on the overall reliability and availability of the University of Minnesota’s infrastructure services. The SRE must understand complex enterprise networks and their dependencies, design, build, socialize, and monitor service-level metrics, identify and reduce manual processes, and apply industry change management, incident management, and DevOps focused concepts to the University environment. This position is an exciting opportunity to help define and operationalize Site Reliability Engineering in OIT and beyond. Job Responsibilities:
  • Drive agile software delivery by leveraging SRE to scale DevOps and manage technical debt without compromising reliability.
  • Identify manual or repetitive tasks and automate them.
  • Collaborate with IT professionals across the University system to identify, establish, and measure service level agreements (SLA), service level indicators (SLI), and service level objectives (SLO).
  • Implement consistent incident classification by prioritizing SLO’s impact and error budget consumption.
  • Facilitate blameless post mortems that focus on the process, are solutions focused, and framed as a learning opportunity for the organization.
  • Design, plan, build, and implement monitoring tools that promote visibility, transparency, and early detection in a complex technical environment.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts, problems, and solutions to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Support the team in adopting and maturing Agile tools and practices.
  • Actively contribute to Agile and Scrum practices utilized by team members and make recommendations.
  • Stay abreast of Agile concepts and new methodologies to improve the productivity of Infrastructure SCRUM teams.
  • Create and review documentation used to document infrastructure support methods, procedures, and configuration.
  • Participate in on-call rotation during non-business hours to resolve production problems and perform scheduled off-hour activities

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience or a comparable combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience with software development, automation, or infrastructure as code.
  • SAFe, Lean, or Agile experience.
  • Experience and proficiency with multiple operating systems.
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative cross-functional team environment.
