We are hiring a Bus HVAC Application Engineer in our Minneapolis, MN office! The Bus HVAC Application Engineer focuses on providing technical solutions for Thermo King products in the North America Bus HVAC product portfolio. The Application Engineer works directly with our customers to ensure the best possible, highest quality, and most reliable HVAC system is provided for their application. Collaborating as part of a cross functional team, this role provides a diverse set of experiences which will generate a solid engineering foundation in Thermo Dynamics, HVAC system design, customer relations, test methods, and communication. Core Job Responsibilities (others may be added):
  • Serve as the technical point of contact and facilitate communication between the Thermo King design team and customers on new and existing products.
  • Lead Bus Application test process which includes defining and managing the test plan, scheduling testing, supporting testing on-site, troubleshooting, analyzing test data, writing formal reports and communicating results to bus OEM teams.
  • Work with internal and external Product Management, Commercial, and Engineering teams to develop proposals based on bus procuring authority specifications and market requirements.
  • Work directly with bus OEM engineering teams to define and coordinate Custom Order Design (COD) projects based on development efforts and/or new procuring authority requirements.
  • Develop new COD system, unit, and kit configurations based on unique customer requirements.
  • Conduct HVAC system application reviews and provide feedback to OEMs
  • Participate in design reviews, design failure mode and effects analysis (DFMEA) and design validation plan and report (DVP&R) activities.
  • Provide support to manufacturing during new product launches and on an as needed basis for quality, reliability and productivity improvements.
  • Provide technical support to the bus OEM to ensure the bus HVAC system is properly applied and installed per Thermo King guidelines.
  • Work with the Service Team, Bus OEM and Transit Authorities to identify and resolve field issues as needed.
  • Provide support to meet assigned quality and reliability targets.
  • Travel 5-15% in North America to customer sites and facilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in the field of Engineering.
  • 0-3 years of experience
  • Experience using CAD software, preferably Pro/Engineer in a Windchill environment
  • Experience or knowledge of the North American bus and coach market is beneficial.

  • Knowledge of vehicle environmental and safety requirements.
