Job Duties

The Manager, Data Science leads a Digital & Technology (D&T) data science team tasked with collaborating with and enabling existing functional data science and analytics teams. This includes setting goals and objectives for data scientists to deliver outstanding results in areas like demand forecasting, text classification, operational analytics, and machine learning, and facilitating curation and application of data science standards and best practices at General Mills.

Specific accountabilities include:

• Build the expertise of others through coaching and mentoring, including direct reports.

• Encourage his/her group to continuously expand their knowledge base.

• Orchestrate value-added solutions by integrating subject matter expertise across D&T.

• Take action to bring missing but needed expertise into General Mills by monitoring technology and industry trends.

• Set goals and objectives for data scientists for achievement of operational results.

• Set day-to-day operational objectives for data science team.

• Ensure policies, practices and procedures are understood and followed by direct reports, business partners and stakeholders.

• Leverage the full range of data science capabilities and technology to generate high-value solutions.

• Propose novel data science solutions to senior leaders.

• Build strong partnerships to ensure continued focus on doing the right work.

• Shape external industry practices through knowledge sharing with vendors and peers.

Job Requirements

Employer will accept a Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a closely related field and two years of experience in the job offered or two years of experience in a related occupation. Experience must include two years of experience in each of the following: 1) Working with Python or R, including experience with DataFrames. 2) Writing complex SQL queries. 3) Using machine Learning to solve clustering, classification, regression, anomaly detection, simulation, and optimization problems on large scale data sets. 4) Merging and transforming disparate internal & external data sets together to create new features. 5) Guiding stakeholders and business partners through the end-to-end process of using data to add business value. 6) Helping team members build and execute different data science business cases. Background check and drug testing required.
