Our client, a leader in the power sports industry, is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer for a direct hire-full-time role in Monticello, MN.

JOB SUMMARYThe Controls Engineer will be instrumental in leading the automation pursuit and controlled systems improvement of our manufacturing processes. This person will be instrumental in developing and implementing the automation for our Machining, Assembly, Testing, and Die Casting operations. They will also establish the framework of control and automation specifications, partner with vendors on turnkey projects, lead the design and development of internal projects, and develop the strategy for continued automation growth. Must be capable of performing the responsibilities of this position with minimal direction and supervision.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Apply Design Standards when partnering with external vendors for purchasing automated systems as well as automated system developed in-house, to promote consistency between projects and comply with governing rules.
  • Oversee installation of control systems on new and/or existing equipment.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for production equipment, facilities, and to support manufacturing processes.
  • Work closely with Maintenance staff to provide technical expertise as needed.
  • Make programming changes as required to maintain and improve manufacturing processes.
  • Proactively evaluate existing equipment and process that would benefit from the addition of automation.
  • Train Maintenance and Production staff on the operation of automated equipment.
  • Assist the Tooling department in the development and design of new tooling/fixtures used in the manufacturing process.
  • Work with EHS staff to maintain compliance with company policies, quality standards, safety standards and OSHA compliance.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to develop code in Rockwell RS500, Studio5000/RS5000 programming environment, for Allen Bradley Micro Logix and ControlLogix PLC’s, for FactoryTalk View-ME for PanelView Plus HMIs, PowerFlex VFDs. Also, the ability to establish communications to these devices via RSLinx, with the understanding of how to set a PC IP Address to accommodate this.
  • Prefer similar capability for Siemens TIA Portal/S7 series, some Siemens WinCC and ability to adapt to various other PLC brands.
  • Prefer experience in programming and troubleshooting Universal Robots, Fanuc robots and ABB robots.
  • Prefer experience troubleshooting and commissioning fieldbus networks (Ethernet/IP and DeviceNet), with some knowledge of IT/IS areas such as working with remote network switches and data drops to equipment.
  • Must be proficient in the use of AutoCAD for 2D work in creating and modifying electrical/pneumatic schematics with and component assembly drawings. Also, the use of AutoCAD in developing and managing facility floor plans for equipment placement and process/material flow.
  • Must be proficient in Electrical panel building, including component mounting, wiring, integration onto a machine and debugging the full system.
  • Prefer knowledge and experience in working with plant-level electrical systems, trouble-shooting components such as motor starters and the ability to debug electrical equipment by testing the electrical path from source to destination.
  • Prefer knowledge of pneumatic systems such as soft start valves, regulators, single and dual solenoid valves, and pneumatic actuators. Similar for hydraulic systems.
  • Prefer some previous experience in working with CNC machining centers, their fixture clamping, tool changers and coolant circulation.
  • Prefer the ability to develop part and assembly drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Analyze and recommend improvement to manufacturing processes, which will benefit from automation techniques.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Metallurgy, or related field. In the absence of a B.S. degree, the ability to demonstrate functional equivalency.
  • Minimum of 2 years directly related experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of Lean Manufacturing methods.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships to lead change.
  • Strong customer service focus.
  • Demonstrates strong troubleshooting skills and ability to analyze and solve practical to complex problems.
