Role: Engineering Consultant

Location: St. Paul, MN 100% telecommute long-term (can sit / remote work anywhere in the US)

Job Description: Engineering Consultant

The people and technology that power our Group business work in the Institutional Market Technology - Group Division of Enterprise Technology. We are seeking an application engineer to work on a team integrating a third party solution into an existing customer facing application; utilizing data and services to deliver an enhanced experience for our customers with Supplemental Health insurance policies.

You will leverage engineering best practices and your excellent communication skills to do quality work and to drive innovation in a highly collaborative, agile atmosphere.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Develop new APIs to enable the exchange of internal and external data
  • Develop and support systems that facilitate the customer purchase journey through underwriting automation
  • Product knowledge to understand the complexities of the varied business lines we serve
  • Develop and maintain solid data security knowledge surrounding our systems and data
  • Develop and support integrations with our third party vendor as well as our internal partners
  • Perform high complexity tasks and enhancements to our existing systems as well as developing solutions around new technology
  • Leverage experience and interest in utilizing new and emerging technologies to create innovative solutions that deliver business value
Qualifications:
  • Experience developing NodeJS/TypeScript
  • Experience developing Java
  • Experience with Spring frameworks; Spring Web Flow is nice to have
  • Experience with SQL and/or other modern database solutions
  • Technical aptitude to understand platform solutions and how those solutions integrate with other internal/external apps to support highly complex or customized processes
  • Experience navigating complex backend integration architectures consisting of RESTful services which pull in dependencies from multiple other systems
  • Comfort and ability to work in a modern product-focused development environment with experience using tools for code migration and deployment (GitHub), test driven development, continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD), and agile development processes
  • Demonstrate a willingness to resolve or elevate issues quickly
  • Desire and willingness to continuously improve those skills and knowledge through internal and external continuous learning
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5- 10 years' experience developing with Java and JavaScript, along with a demonstrated experience onboarding to new frameworks and technologies
  • Experience with Agile principles
  • Experience with RESTful and SOAP based Web Services
