The Nature Conservancy seeks a full time Civic Engagement Staff person to work in St. Cloud and Central Minnesota on a campaign to protect the upper Mississippi River, the lakes and streams that flow into the river, and the land that surrounds it.
Duties include efforts to identify and develop leaders and mobilize constituents on legislative priorities related to the Conservancys work in the Mississippi headwaters region. Civic Engagement Staff will engage in efforts to help the public understand the threats to clean water in the region. They will identify and recruit leaders through 1:1 meetings, phone banks, door to door canvassing and events. They will coach leaders in the skills and attitudes needed to speak out for change, organize effective teams that can lead grassroots efforts and work with leaders to organize effective actions to build a base of support.
Well qualified candidates include people with:
1. Experience and comfort with with door to door canvassing, phone canvassing, and/or digital organizing.
2. Experience building networks, facilitating effective meetings, and building capacity.
3. Experience, coursework, or other training in grassroots organizing, public policy, government relations, urban farming, social work or similar field.
4. Solid public speaking and presentation skills
5. Solutions oriented, Self-starting, independent work ethic
6. Demonstrated ability to work independently in a decentralized organization
7. Experience developing volunteer leadership in the context of a campaign or initiative.
This position requires a valid drivers license, a good driving record and the ability to work some evenings and weekends. This is a full-time regular position with benefits including health and dental insurance, paid time off, flexible schedules and more. One position is available in St Cloud, Minnesota or a location nearby that city.
