Job Description: Medical Coder
Position Overview
The medical coder reviews clinical documentation and assigns medical codes for outpatient clinic facility and/or professional services.
Scope of Responsibilities
Codes information about procedures performed and the diagnosis on charge.
Utilizes medical software programs to abstract, analyze and/or evaluate clinical documentation and enter or edit diagnosis and procedure codes.
Coordinates with staff to get charge information for all patients in an EMR environment.
Verifies and completes charge information in database and produces billing.
Gathers and verifies all information required to produce a clean claim, including special billing procedures that may be defined by a payer or contract.
Follows ICD9/ICD10 codes to ensure diagnosis codes are correct.
Assists in charge capture by reviewing provider and/or patient documentation.
Queries provider when code assignments or documentation is unclear.
Keeps Revenue Cycle Director informed of matters regarding charge entry.
Works in conjunction with the A/R team on follow up and resolution of coding related denials and rejections.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Professional Services Coding Certifications: The following are recognized
professional certifications: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT);
Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA); Certified Professional
Medical Coding Auditor (CPMA); Certified Professional Coder (CPC); Certified
Outpatient Coder (COC); or Certified Coding Specialist - Physician (CCS-P).
Proficiency with Medical billing system software and MS Office.

Hourly Non-Exempt
Hours of Work General hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 4:30 P.M.
Work Environment This position operates in a professional office environment and requires use of standard office equipment. Work is primarily sedentary in nature.
