Responsibilities:
  • Develop software, firmware and networks in support of research and development of electronic and digital optical survey tools
  • Work closely with the design engineer throughout the systems design, prototype development and checkout phase; perform software modifications, create documentation and provide operator training on electronic and digital optical systems
  • Reviews, analyzes, and modifies programming systems including encoding, testing, debugging and installing to support an organization's application systems
  • Consults with users to identify current operating procedures and to clarify program objectives
  • Write technical operating procedures and documentation for all application interfaces developed
  • Work closely with the scientific community to develop / review requirements and develop, recommend and discuss technical designs that meet those requirements
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with existing systems
  • Identify opportunities that can improve the efficiency of business processes
  • Integrate and extend both custom and licensed applications
  • Develop and deploy applications following the established System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) policies and procedures
  • Provide quality control support to ensure that collected information is of the highest quality and accuracy
  • Interface with other members of the IT team to quickly and efficiently resolve problems with applications and database systems
Required Skills:
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience with manipulating database operations via .NET (Create, Replace, Update and Delete) in Access databases would be a huge help. The ACCDB and older MDB formats are very similar so if you have worked against either one that is helpful
  • In-depth knowledge of programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, C, Dynamic-C, or C
  • Familiar with Microsoft .NET programming in either the C# language or Visual Basic.NET. C# programmers can be converted fairly easily to VB.NET
  • Experience with database management systems such as dBASE, Oracle, Microsoft Access or Microsoft SQL Server
  • Knowledge of the Structured Query Language (SQL) to include stored procedures
  • Working knowledge of application development methodologies
  • Experience with documenting and maintaining configuration and process information
  • Familiarity of networking protocols and standards
  • Ability to plan, organize, and work on multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Experience interpreting regulations or technical material, defining problems, and analyzing alternatives combined with the ability to deal effectively with others in order to recommend and negotiate solutions
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written correspondence) in a professional and courteous manner with technical and non-technical personnel
  • Must be able to read and understand logic coded by someone else
  • Ability to work on a project either as a team player or as the sole developer
  • Ability to work on several items at the same time
  • Ability to work with others to get requirements for projects better defined and in some cases, even create the requirements from very basic information the scientists provide
  • Basic knowledge of various ports on a PC to include
  • Ability to work with a number of different user and support personnel to get the survey setup
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair issues from shore
