We are looking for a Storage Engineer to provide engineering and design services for the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) IT infrastructure under the Revolutionary Information Technology Services (RITS) contract. USACE is mostly known for their support of water ways (locks, levees, dams, canals) but they are also involved in a wide variety of support for the DoD and other civil engineering projects. USACE offers a large network connecting over 1,500 locations and operates two data centers. The RITS opportunity will provide a revolutionary approach for IT services within USACE. Working and building infrastructure throughout the world in support of the USACE mission. RITS will include the opportunity to move additional IT services to the cloud, and streamline end user support and services, while building and maintaining state of the art solutions.

What will you be doing? The selected candidate Reporting to the Chief Systems Engineer, works in a Multi-Storage vendor environment that includes design, architecture, configuration, and deployment. Translates business needs into long-term architecture solutions. Defines, designs, and builds directory, monitoring, clustering, configuration management environments. Responsible for developing directory, monitoring, clustering, configuration management design architecture and artifacts, evaluating hardware and software platforms, configurations, and integrating systems. Evaluates current environment for additional performance efficiencies, stability, reliability, and serviceability, and security posture. Conducts, documents, and collaborates on technology reviews to ensure that the environment is aligned with current trends in directory, monitoring, clustering, configuration management technology.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate openly and frankly with all internal and external partners, such as Government Engineers, Contractor Engineers, Contractor Operations staff, Management, and 3rd party vendors
  • Work independently, including the self-management of projects. Help others and ask for help without hesitation.
  • Ensure timely delivery of all Engineering Service Requests, removing any obstacles to completing work as scheduled
  • Perform risk analysis of each Engineering Service Request, and inform all stakeholders of the applicable risks
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership on the Linux/UNIX needs of all software and hardware used in the Corps of Engineers' environment, which includes, in part, products by Oracle, HP, Dell, Cisco, VMware, Microsoft, Citrix, NetApp, HItachi, etc., and the integration of new storage products within the Corps of Engineers' environment
  • Assist/Mentor junior storage Engineers on technical solutions and architecture
  • Provide significant input and authorship of the Technology Refresh Plan, and the Capacity and Demand Management Plan for the environment's storage solutions, in accordance with the Technology Target Architecture, and in collaboration with the Government Engineering team, Enterprise Operations team, and fellow contractor engineers
  • Participate in developing the target storage architecture
  • Design new implementations of storage within the environment, and after Information Assurance review, coordinate the installation of them with the DevOps Engineer, Enterprise Operations, and relevant stakeholders
  • Document the storage architecture, including network port connectivity, and design choices of the associated applications (Low Level Design, High Level Design)
  • Automate facets of the storage architecture, including configuration, patching and upgrades, in coordination with DevOps Engineers
  • Provide secure, reliable, and high performing configurations of the storage environment
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • Interim Secret Clearance required prior to start
  • Engineer will possess a Security+ CE, CASP, or CISSP certification or obtain one within 6 months of hire
  • At least 3 years job experience in a related field
  • BA/BS degree or equivalent proven experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to present ideas in a business-friendly and user-friendly language.
  • Current knowledge of IT requirements analysis, including capacity planning and interface integration. Breadth of knowledge will include hypervisors, blade servers, converged and hyper-converged hardware platforms, virtual desktop software, etc. Engineer will be fully versed with multiple storage protocols and vendors.
  • Previous experience with multi-site, multi-vendor enterprise IT architecture. Engineer will document and socialize network design and design considerations to a change-management team.
