Job Summary The primary responsibility of the Software Engineer Consultant is to support our Software Craftsmanship practice by delivering well-crafted software for our clients. Software Engineer Consultants will use the most effective combination of face to face and remote communication available in order be a driving team member of the client's technical workforce. Our consultants work with our clients by utilizing a variety of online collaboration tools for communication, code collaboration and screen sharing when working remotely. Candidates will be responsible for the analysis of business and technical problems and the development of well-defined methods, procedures, and programs in the delivery of practical system solutions. Software Engineer Consultants work directly with client engineers and management to introduce, enable, and apply best practices to the development and delivery process.

Job Responsibilities/Essential Functions/Competencies This role will report to the Practice Manger, Software Craftsmanship and collaborate to achieve the following:
  • Develop software and the supporting infrastructure to deliver on client requirements
  • Make recommendations for existing and proposed architectures
  • Maintain proficiency with existing and new programming technologies
  • Provide technical guidance, knowledge transfers and mentorship to peers as required
  • Help implement and improve the CI/CD software pipeline

Qualifications Education A bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience required. Work Experience Minimum of 2 - 5 years' experience in software development Specialized Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience in one or more of the following languages and practices: Java &/or C#.NET, JavaScript, Android, iOS.
  • Experience with the automated build process, unit testing, source code analysis tools
  • Experience under formal software development processes
  • Experience with multiple platform environments, including LINUX, Mac OS or Windows
  • Ability to work in an agile environment, preferably with pairing
  • Proven ability to produce quality documents using a variety of media, text and tools with minimum errors
  • Critical thinker with the ability to interpret complex technical requirements
  • Excellent personal presence with proven ability to work with all levels of management internally and externally
  • Highly motivated and dependable with exceptional communication
  • A self-starter that relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish individual and team goals

The following knowledge skills and attributes are preferred:
  • Passionate about delivering a high-quality user experience
  • Skilled in multiple programming languages.
  • Expert level knowledge of one of the programming languages.
  • Experience using software development processes such as TDD, pair programming and other XP practices.
  • Experience in building highly scalable, cloud-native, microservices-based applications.

Working conditions
  • Up to 50% travel to support clients across North America.
