Job Description

Position Overview

The KIPP Forward (KF) program is responsible for implementing robust programming for KIPP St. Louis students in each phase of their high school and post-secondary education. The KF program seeks to support all KSL students in becoming successful adults in their academic, professional and personal lives. The Adviser will support students and families in navigating post-secondary pathways and help ensure that our advising model provides exposure, guidance and support for students and their families as they identify and plan for after high school. The Adviser will perform additional duties and do whatever it takes for ALL students to be successful at KIPP St. Louis schools and on their postsecondary journeys. The Adviser will report to the Manager of Advising for KIPP St. Louis.

This position is available for the 2022-2023 school year with a tentative start date of July 1, 2022

Position type: Full time, exempt, 12 month position

Responsibilities:

  • Support high school juniors and seniors and their families with post-secondary planning according to student fit, interests and goals

  • Help students find and apply for post-secondary programs including college, CTE, military or employment

  • Promote and oversee scholarship applications for seniors who are applying to college

  • Progress monitor towards goals around applications, FAFSA submissions, post-secondary matriculations and enrollments

  • Plan and host family information sessions related to postsecondary options and processes including FAFSA workshops

  • Collaborate with College and Career Readiness 11 and 12 teachers to ensure lessons are aligned to our postsecondary advising model

  • Ensure maintenance of accurate data in data tracking systems (Overgrad)

  • Establish and cultivate relationships with college/ university admissions offices, scholarship programs, corporate partners, nonprofit groups and various outreach programs

  • Support and train KHS staff in the areas of college admissions, scholarships, financial aid, and standardized testing when necessary

  • Manage student selection and applications for KIPP Foundation Scholarships and other competitive scholarship programs

  • Act as the liaison between KHS students and families and post-secondary programs

  • Work collaboratively with student, family and KIPP Forward team to ensure student is prepared to transition from high school to their post-secondary choice

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Masters preferred

  • Experience in college advising and/or career planning is preferred

  • A passion for working with students in the city of St. Louis and a desire to provide whatever resources are necessary to ensure that all students will succeed

  • Shared responsibility for program activities, some of which take place during evenings or Saturdays.

  • Commitment to personal professional growth.

  • Dedication to helping children grow and learn.

  • Outstanding organizational skills and high attention to detail; outstanding written and oral communication skills.

  • Commitment to doing whatever it takes, whenever it needs to be done, to empower our students to be successful.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to manage a wide array of relationships and partnerships.
