Job Description

LaunchCode Teaching Assistants guide a group of students as their principal education and support point of contact throughout LaunchCode programs, while simultaneously refining their own professional development goals. The team leadership experience will provide the opportunity to grow your own leadership, people management, and group facilitation skills.

Teaching Assistants complete 3 hours of paid training in teaching and facilitation fundamentals, project and people management, diversity and inclusion, and community building.

This role reports to the LaunchCode Candidate Engagement Manager.

Position TypePart-Time - Contract

This is a contracted, part-time, paid position for LaunchCode's LiftOff August 2021 Program. The class will run for up to 9 weeks, beginning on August 8th with an estimated end date on September 27th. Class will meet on Mondays from 5:30 to 8:30 CST.

LiftOff is a free program
for candidates with existing technical skills looking to make the next step towards landing a job in technology. It teaches project development and career-readiness skills such as interviews, resumes prep, and more.Class is planned to currently meet virtually as we continue to follow guidelines set by public health officials related to COVID-19. Due to class being virtual, we

are accepting applications from outside of our hub locations. Please note that all course staff would still be expected to be available at the class times listed above.

Teaching Assistants will be paid $12.50/hr and work 5-6 hours per week. As part-time contractors, Teaching Assistants are not eligible for employee benefits through LaunchCode.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of back end or full-stack web programming concepts
  • Passion for others learning to code
  • Strong communication skills - comfortable leading small groups and/or providing one on one teaching assistance
  • Perception/patience (knowing when a student needs help and guiding them in how to problem solve to find answers)
  • Growth mindset
