Tetra Tech Inc. is currently seeking a full-time, Entry to Junior Level, GIS Specialist for our Helena, MT office.

The selected candidate will support the Helena and Denver, CO City offices. You will work with other GIS Specialists across the company, providing support on various contracts and projects with appropriate supervision. You will perform simple to moderate GIS and data management tasks including: geospatial and environmental data/database management, creation, analysis, reporting, and cartographic design. Will work in a team setting to support GIS Specialists with map/graphic, database, and web-based mapping application development on environmental and disaster management planning projects for various local, State, and Federal clients. You will gain knowledge in GIS and data management tools, practices, and procedures, while interfacing with GIS discipline leads/specialists, project managers, field personnel, and other internal and external clients. There is roughly 20% travel expected for this position.

Principle Responsibilities:

Work under supervision of GIS Specialists, perform analytical, technical, and/or developmental tasks as assigned.

Assist project team with the preparation of maps and databases for specific elements of Tetra Tech projects.

Develop or modify deliverables based on redlines/rough sketches, marked-up copies and/or detailed verbal instructions.

Compile, evaluate, modify and analyze data to support preparation of web-based mapping applications, figures, tables, graphs, databases, and reports.

Provide on-site and/or off-site GIS support for environmental sampling and emergency response activities.

Attend internal and external client meetings.

Research various websites and data stores for data applicable to each project.

Establish and maintain required files to document data references, analytical methods, calculations, and rationale used in reaching conclusions.

Perform additional tasks specific to an area of expertise or technology.

Ensure deliverables and tasks are complete and follow Tetra Tech’s Quality Control program requirements.

Other duties as assigned.

Secondary Responsibilities:

Provide field support for environmental sampling and emergency response projects.

Job Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have between 0-2 years’ experience performing related tasks. You will also have the following experience in/with:

Producing figures, maps, or displays for decision making, project deliverables or public consumption.

Managing data in relational database systems such as Microsoft Access is a plus.

Esri’s ArcGIS Desktop software suite suggested.

Esri’s ArcGIS Online a plus.

Mobile field data collection applications such as ESRI Collector and/or Survey123 a plus.

In addition, you should have/be:

Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills (both written and verbal).

Highly motivated, customer focused and work well in a team environment.

Exposure to SQL Server preferred.

Proficiency with MS Word and Excel also preferred.

BS or minor in GIS preferred.

HAZWOPER 40-hr training a plus.

There is a potential for this candidate to also support environmental field assignments. Therefore, the candidate should be capable of lifting sample coolers and other equipment up to 50 pounds. You must be able to wear full-face respirator and complete annual medical monitoring program, including pulmonary function testing.

This position requires you to drive on a regular basis and will require passing a motor vehicle record (MVR) background check.

There is no relocation for this position.
