Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Development and Advocacy the Grant Writer / Development Associate supports all fundraising tasks at the Poverello Center with a focus on grant research, writing and reporting.

Reports to: Director of Development and Advocacy

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Research appropriate grant funding and pursue new and ongoing grant funding opportunities.

Write grant effective grant applications, including compiling requested attachments, budgets and other requested documents in compliance with each funders requirements.

Apply to a variety of sources (foundations, government, corporations, etc.) to provide a diverse array of funding sources both new and ongoing.

Collaborate with the Development Team to set annual development goals and strategy, especially grant-based fundraising.

Maintain organized and up to date records of application and reporting requirements and deadlines. This also includes keeping accurate records of grant program requirements and assisting the Director of Development and Advocacy in communicating those requirements to Program Staff.

Coordinate with the Development Team and Program Staff to carry out timely and precise grant report writing.

Maintain hard copy and digital grant records in compliance with accounting standards.

Write periodic reports on grant strategy and outcomes for the Development Team and Board Development Committee.

Participate on the Poverello Development Team, and other required staff meetings or trainings.

Assist with appeals, donor/volunteer relations, special events and donor database management.

Other duties and special projects as directed by the Director of Development and Advocacy and the Executive Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

Successful completion of a thorough background investigation.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelors degree in human services or related field, or equivalent education/experience required.

Experience in database, spreadsheet, desktop publishing and word processing programs required.

Three years experience working with homelessness, at-risk individuals or similar social service setting preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Exposure to unpleasant sights, sounds and odors is frequently encountered.

Salary & Benefits: $14 to $16 - hour for 20 to 25 hours a week. Paid sick and vacation time.
