Job Description SummaryJob DescriptionBD Diagnostics, Preanalytical SystemsHourly Non-ExemptJOB DESCRIPTIONJOB TITLE: Mold Repair/Tool and Die Maker Apprentice DEPARTMENT: Tool Room - 311GRADE: H09 SENIORITY: INTERVIEW: XJOB SUMMARYDisassemble, clean, repair, perform necessary maintenance and reassemble molds. Fabricate components for molds and assembly equipment to print specification and dimensions.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to:Mold repair; disassemble molds without damage to components.Clean mold plates and all components.Polish cavities and cores as required.Fabricate simple mold components or make simple repairs on machine tools as directed.Assemble molds and components maintaining proper dimensional tolerances.Must be able to trouble shoot and analyze problems with molds.Reads and understands blueprints, sketches, and schematics, relating to tool room practices.Plans and lays out work from oral or written specifications, using the necessary hand and machine tools, instruments and related equipment.Makes necessary shop computations using metric, decimal, and fractional measures of length.Has some knowledge of welding and tool room equipment and be capable of operating machines within the prescribed tolerance and allowances.Organizes workflow when mass-producing new or replacement parts for manufacturing equipment.Works efficiently and cooperates with supervision and other fellow employees.Maintains a reasonably clean work area and reports safety hazards to Supervision.Performs any miscellaneous duties that might be assigned by Supervision.OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES Other responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:Complies with all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies/procedures.Complies with all local BD quality policies/procedures/practices through consistent application of sound Quality Assurance principles.Performs other job related duties as assigned.Observes all safety, environmental and quality system standards.All requirements are subject to possible modification to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities.Some requirements may exclude individuals who pose a direct threat or significant risk to the health and safety of themselves or other employees.This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee occupying this position. Experience may be used to substitute for education, as long as those in the role complete their degree within a reasonable amount of time. Individual development plans and requirements may be established.Experience in molding, tool and die or general maintenance helpful and preferred.Math skills needed: Competency in all basic math and working knowledge of higher math (including trig, algebra, and geometry) and Knowledge of decimal system. Must be able to interpret readings from indicators, micrometers and assorted gauges.Physical RequirementsLevel 4Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds occasionally, or 25 to 50 pounds frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds constantly. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.Mental RequirementsMust have excellent inter-personal relation skills. Must be able to read and understand blueprints, drawings, sketches, etc.Molding SkillsAttention to detail.Some Knowledge with plastic and/or injection molds.Some knowledge of plastic processingEquipment UseAbility to operate some Tool Room equipment from small hand tools to large machines. Must be a licensed Level 3 forklift operator.Working ConditionsThe worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside.The worker is subject to extreme heat: Temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour.The worker is subject to noise: There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.The worker is subject to vibration: Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals and broken glass.The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.The worker is subject to oils: There is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.SupervisionThis position reports directly to the Molding/Tooling Engineer Supervisor.This position has no supervision over others.Becton, Dickinson and Company is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
