Job Description SummaryThis position is responsible for developing and implementing CMM and CT inspection metrology methods to evaluate product compliance to design specifications. CMM inspection technologies may include (but are not limited to): touch-probe, scanning probe, optical/vision camera, dot-scan, and other methods as identified. This role assists manufacturing, quality and engineering with establishing and optimizing relevant inspection (CMM or CT) measurement procedures and training others to perform inspections. Help maintain and collaboratively work towards the vision of creating a center of excellence for Metrology. Responsibilities also include driving improvement by actively researching and developing advanced techniques and best practices by networking with others both within and outside BD. Ensures compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and best practices, and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures. JG3PCP level N/A Metrology Engineer Responsibilities include but are not limited to:- Assist with measurement system development, documentation, and validation.
- Analyze and post-process relevant inspection data in support of product and process qualification activities using OEM CMM/CT inspection software and/or other software programs such as Minitab. Provide engineering support for utilizing CMM/CT inspection technology to validate/qualify manufacturing equipment, processes and products.
- Compliance matrices development, measurement strategy, fixture design/development.
- Interact with plant production, continuous improvement & quality teams to examine options and develop plans to leverage inspection tools to support plant performance.
- Interface with personnel from R&D, Device Molding, Quality, Manufacturing, Process / Assembly Technology and outside metrology vendors and provide metrology expertise to each project as assigned.
- Manages assigned projects proactively with deliverables met in a timely fashion and right the first time.
- Actively research and implement new technologies and best practices across inspection methods. Maintain state-of-the-art inspection competencies as defined by plant strategy (CMM/CT) through training courses, seminars, industry conferences, and peer mentoring (with experts both within BD and outside such as with equipment & fixture vendors).
- Develop and validate standard measurement routine programs and test instructions for first article inspection (FAI) and other required inspections.
- Coordinate routine preventive maintenance and calibration activities for applicable inspection equipment. Assist with development and application of additional related metrology resources & capabilities as needed.
- Maintain organization of data and proper electronic filing(scans, results, Work instructions, programs) for future analysis or reference.

- Associates or Bachelors degree is preferred
- Machine Design or Mechatronics, Electrical, or Electrical Mechanical Technologies with CAD, or related discipline. Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Mathematics, Metrology or related discipline.
- 2 years of industry experience or a combination of equivalent education and experience preferred.
- CMM inspection and programming or related metrology engineering experience preferred.
- 3 years of inspection and programming or related metrology (CMM or CT) experience required if no degree.
