INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this position is to perform manual labor tasks involving the use of heavy hand tools, and heavy power equipment. II. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs one or a combination of the following manual labor tasks: 1. Loads, unloads, or relocates heavy or bulky items from boxcars, trucks, and other conveyances; carriers and assembles scaffolding. 2. Digs ditches and trenches with pick and shovel where dirt is hard and compact; does grading and sloping; occasionally and for short periods of time, breaks up pavement with jackhammer; mixes and pours concrete, asphalt, and hot mix; fills and levels holes in damaged roads. 3. Uses heavy (not domestic type) power mowers; adjust blades, and cleans and oils mowers; cuts trees, using ax or chain saw. III. OTHER SIGNIFICAT FACTS: 1. Skill and Knowledge: some degree of manual skill and prior work experience is required to work safely with heavy hand tools or to operate, control, and clean heavy power equipment. Continual care and attention must be exercised to prevent accidents because of the nature of the duties and the kind of equipment used. 2. Physical Effort: Heavy physical effort is required in frequently lifting and moving objects weighing over 50 pounds, and in using heavy hand tools and operating equipment.3. Working Conditions: Works outside in all kinds of weather, or indoors in areas that may be dusty, drafty, and noisy. Special care is required to avoid serious injuries.
