SummaryAbout the position:This position will be assigned to the Outdoor Recreation at Offutt AFB. The purpose of this position is to troubleshoot, test and repair small engines, as well as perform preventative maintenance on other miscellaneous equipment. Major equipment repairs are transferred to a higher graded mechanic after consulting with the supervisor.ResponsibilitiesProvides instructions to patrons, as requested or deemed appropriate and on a regular and recurring basis, performs such duties such as repairing small engines, minor assemblies, and components. Diagnoses malfunctions, performs minor repair and maintenance and services a wide variety of equipment such as powered, towed, or hand operated grass cutting equipment, snow removal equipment, chain saws, boats, jet skis, wheel and bearings, as well as single, two and four cylinder gasoline engines on assigned equipment. Responsible for ordering, stocking, controlling and maintaining an adequate inventory of all parts, oil, grease, tools, etc. Determines type and quantity of merchandise to be stocked in the retail outlet, sells or rents items to customers and provides cost estimates. Accountable for funds control and the collection of fees. Conducts inventories, initiates purchase/rental orders, and tracks issue and return of items. Aligns, meshes, and connects repaired units to related mechanisms and effects adjustments according to manufacturers' specifications. Operates or demonstrates operation of all equipment in the activity inventory. Maintains order in the facility; enforces applicable fire, safety, and good housekeeping rules and regulations. Performs cleanup duties as required. Keeps tools and equipment in good condition by periodic and preventive maintenance such as replacing spark plugs, and checking oil/fluid levels on all equipment. Recommends replacement/repair and/or acquisition of tools and equipment. Performs other duties as assigned. Ability to test, troubleshoot components and systems to locate equipment defects. Ability to interpret and apply manufacturer's repair manuals and technical specifications, schematics and engineering drawings, diagnostic codes, computer printouts and safety manuals. Ability to operate electronic test equipment. Requires frequent standing, bending, stooping, crawling, reaching, and arm movement in awkward positions or cramped areas. Frequently lifts, handles, and carriers parts and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. Occasionally moves moderately heavy items with assistance, including objects weighing up to or over 50 pounds. Work is preformed inside and outside. Occasionally performs work under adverse weather conditions. Constantly exposed to dirt, dust, grease and to the potential for burns, chemical irritations, shocks, bruises, cuts and strains. Requires caution in working with moving parts during operation, repair or maintenance of equipment.
