Vitalant Research Institute (VRI) is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Research Associate I to work at our Denver, Colorado location. This is a full-time position, currently Monday-Friday from approximately 8am-4:30pm.

VRI-Denver is a leading institute for research and translational development of new, modified and novel blood components for the transfusion medicine community. Located in Denver, Colorado on the grounds of the Vitalant Blood Center, our focus includes in vitro characterization, design and execution of early clinical trials, and participation in pivotal trials for regulatory approvals.

The Research Associate will work independently or as part of a team, supporting research and development activities, including work in a biological specimen repository, receiving, processing and storing biospecimens. The ideal candidate should possess a strong work ethic, be highly detail-oriented, organized, with excellent written and oral communication skills, record keeping and logical troubleshooting capabilities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Receives and manages biospecimens for storage and research use, including specimen entry into biobank database system, retrieval and aliquoting of specimens.

2. Maintains accurate documentation relevant to specimen inventory tracking and laboratory testing.

3. Assists with database management and performs basic to advanced statistical analysis.

4. Under limited supervision, may perform complex research or clinical testing on components produced from whole blood, platelet apheresis, apheresis red cell products, in compliance with SOPs and research study protocols.

5. Operates a variety of laboratory equipment, including cleaning, daily QC and preventative maintenance activities.

6. Utilizes knowledge of standard clinical and research procedures and techniques, and standard equipment and/or software to generate and interpret results.

7. Adheres to all quality and safety standards, policies and procedures, as well as ensuring compliance with any applicable regulatory requirements.

8. Participates in new or revised process and procedure development.

9. Performs all other duties, at the discretion of management, as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and/or education required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience:

Understanding of biospecimen management lifecycle, including biospecimen collection, processing, storage and shipping is preferred.

Experience in regulated laboratory environments is preferred.

Skills/Abilities:

Must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend and lift up to 50 lbs.

Must be detail oriented and possess strong communication, organization, analytical, and decision-making skills and be able to comprehend and apply clinical laboratory procedures and theory.

Must be able to maintain donor, patient and employee confidentiality.
