We have an immediate opening for a licensed veterinary technician. We are a three-doctor small animal practice. Our hospital is a well-established practice with very loyal clients. We have Laser Therapy, Digital X-Ray, in hospital Lab, Ultrasound, and best of all, friendly and team-oriented staff.

We have a great benefits package which includes medical/dental/vision insurance, Aflac, vacation time, CE and licensing fees, and a reduced price scale for your pets. Wages are based on experience.

Physical Requirements

o Able to lift 40 pounds.

o Able to work long or irregular hours

o Infrequent overtime required

o Able to work under stressful conditions

o Able to sit, stand, walk, bend, or reach on a continuous basis for entire duration of shift.

o Visual acuity sufficient for understanding written instructions and recognizing changes in patients that require attention.

o Able to hear and speak sufficiently to understand, give information in person and over the telephone and recognize change in monitor and patient sounds.

o Fine motor skills adequate for using equipment such as but not limited to: computers, lab and radiology equipment, syringes, telephones, electric clippers, etc.

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

o Previous experience working in a veterinary facility Required

o Must be friendly, outgoing and people oriented.

o Requires excellent communication skills.

o Must be capable of multi-tasking as you will be expected to work on several projects each day.

o Telephone, calculator and computer skills.

o Must be able to place IV catheters, place urinary catheters on male dogs and cats, blood collection techniques, and drug/IV fluid calculations.

o Dependable attendance is required.

 Education Requirements

o High school diploma or GED.

o Veterinary Technician license for the state of Nevada.

TERINARY TECHNICIAN”JOB DUTIES

 Client Relations

o Have a complete understanding and working knowledge of hospital policies, protocols and standards of care.

o Demonstrate excellent relations with clients and their pets in a variety of settings such as hospital waiting or exam rooms, hospital parking lot and on house calls.

o Build rapport with clients by greeting them and their pets by name, introducing yourself, inquiring about pets health, assisting clients with filling out any necessary paperwork, and keeping clients informed of appropriate waiting times.

o Assist reception staff as needed by being able to provide telephone support such as taking messages and scheduling appointments.

o Effectively communicate and educate clients about general animal husbandry and answer non-medical questions.

o Inform clients about services or products that the hospital offers such as:

 General dietary requirements/feeding schedules

 Vaccines (Core vs. Optional)

 Dental and Surgery Home Care Instructions

 Routine laboratory tests

 Heartworm preventatives

 Housebreaking techniques

 General flea and tick control

 Manage Controlled Drug logs

 Nursing Care

o Keep all patients clean and as comfortable as possible for the duration of their stay with us.

o Follow through with each patient you help with to make sure the clients are notified in a timely manner, charges are entered, and the chart has been completed and sent up front.

o Ensure all patients and their belongings are correctly identified.

o Understand proper feed/water amounts and schedules.

o Have an expanded knowledge of general medical conditions seen regularly such as: diabetes, kidney failure, thyroid conditions, arthritis and obesity.

o Knowledge of animal behavior to help with predicting and preventing scratches and bites.

o Knowledge of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as: muzzles, towels, leashes or cat clapper to help prevent scratches or bites.

o Knowledge of restraint for the different species we see as well as restrain used while clients are present.

o Prep exam room before doctor enters by: taking accurate history pertaining to chief complaint, TPR and weigh the patient, enter correct charges and prepare needed instruments/equipment.

o Understand when an emergency situation arises and what can be done if a doctor is not on premises.

o Treat hospitalized patients under supervision. Be familiar with what you are allowed to do as a Veterinary Technician. Code of Ethics”Vet Rules/Regulations.

 Housekeeping and Maintenance of Hospital

o Keep entire hospital, inside and out, extremely clean during the day. This includes your own clothing and appearance. Remember”a client could arrive to visit their pet at any time.

o Knowledge of needle/sharps safety and proper disposal.

o Advise safety manager of any unsafe working conditions or infractions of safety rules by way of Safety Suggestion Form.

 Anesthesia and Surgery Assisting

o Understand anesthetic machine set-up, maintenance and troubleshooting.

o Responsible for calculating, drawing up, labeling, logging, and proper administration of controlled drugs that you used that day. (including 3 initials)

o Induction and intubation.

o Have a sense of urgency while a patient is under anesthesia and understand the order of importance for the needed tasks to be done.

o Monitor patients while under anesthesia including: anesthetic level, heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature. Understand when to use each of the provided monitors.

o Understand when there is an anesthetic emergency and be familiar with emergency procedures and antidotes.

o Understand how to clip and prep animals for a variety of both dirty and sterile surgeries.

o Understand when aseptic technique is needed and maintain sterile conditions.

o Know the names and uses of the most common surgical instruments and equipment.

o Scrub, wrap and autoclave surgical instruments and packs.

o Write up all surgerys dentals or any procedures maintain patient charts, and entering charges.

o Guide veterinary assistant with writing up surgery and patient charts, and entering charges.

o Be willing and able to assist the doctor with surgical procedures.

 Radiology and Dentistry Assisting

o Knowledge of radiographic techniques and settings to be able to position and take quality radiographs.

o Use digital x-rayto send x rays to Idexx for a consult.

o Maintain and care for all radiology and dental equipment including daily and weekly maintenance.

o Practice all safety regulations in regard to radiology.

o Understand how to set up and maintain dental station including: changing dental tips and polishing heads.

o Dental cleanings know properly how to clean a dog or cats teeth

o Dental charting, writing up patient record, and entering charges.

o Have an expertise with the uses of dental instruments.

o Ability to take, develop, and store dental radiographs.

 Laboratory Duties

o Prepare lab test request forms for both in-house and out-house labs.

o Knowledge of samples required for different tests.

o Properly label and store all samples.

o Able to run in-house lab equipment including microscope and blood machines and knowledge of necessary maintenance and troubleshooting for this equipment.

o Collect ear swab and analyze for presence of ear mites.

o Collect skin scraping sample, prepare slides, and analyze for presence of external parasites.

o Ability to run simple in-house urine and fecal analysis.

 Pharmacy Duties

o Create prescription labels, fill prescriptions and dispense medications as directed by a doctor.

o Control inventory and assist in ordering medications and supplies.

o Have expanded knowledge of medications used on a regular basis including different names for the same medication and proper route of administration (po, sq, im, iv, etc.).

 Accounting/Cornerstone Duties

o Have a working knowledge of Cornerstone.

o Accurately enter charges in a timely manner and within estimate price range.

o Apply appropriate discounts if applicable.

o Create, present and explain fees and estimates for treatment or surgery to clients.

o Check and update patient signalment and vaccine status.
