Job Description

Within the School of Medicine,

the Simulation Centre for Patient Safety (SCPS) is seeking to appoint aDirector.

This is a substantive appointment for either a clinical academic (likely at Senior Lecturer level but negotiable depending on the candidate) or a suitably qualified and experienced professional staff candidate with the key leadership responsibility as Director of the Simulation Centre for Patient Safety.

This is a 0.5 FTE position, working 20 hours per week in support of this role. Clinical academics could negotiate an employment arrangement on a substantive university contract or a buy-back arrangement with their parent District Health Board.

The purpose of the position is to cultivate a dynamic collaborative environment at SCPS that fosters excellence in simulation-based teaching and learning, research, service and leadership with the overall goal of enhancing the quality and safety of healthcare.

Reporting through to the Head of Department of Anaesthesiology, you will be working closely with the SCPS Manager, Technical Team, Teaching Technicians, Professional staff that support the team as well as permanent and casual Academic Staff, the team are passionate about their work with a goal to improve patient safety through simulation-based education and research.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic with a passion to inspire both Academic and Professional Staff. They will have a strong ability to lead the development and delivery of strategic and operational activities for the Simulation Centre for Patient Safety as well as ensuring high quality teaching is delivered to our students. You will work with the Centre Manager to ensure that the Centre stays within its allocated budget

Important Skills/ Experience| Nga Pūkenga Motuhake

  • Clinically experienced; respected and seen as an educationally / emotionally intelligent leader in an area of healthcare practice
  • Experience of formal and informal teaching in healthcare
  • Substantial experience with application of high fidelity simulation in undergraduate and / or graduate education
  • Proven people management and leadership skills gained in a large and complex environment;
  • A consultative and collaborative approach with a natural ability to build lasting stakeholder relationships and partnerships;
  • Strong ability to negotiate
  • A highly effective communication style, both written and verbal
  • Be highly motivated, self-managing and exceptionally well organised. You will have strong planning and co-ordination skills and be able to juggle multiple tasks
  • Technically Savvy

Qualifications

  • Medical or suitable paramedical qualification.
