Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

We seek a lecturer/senior lecturer in biological sciences for a permanent role in the School of Biological Sciences/ Te Kura Mātauranga Koiora. First and foremost, we seek to recruit candidates with the skills and experience to foster an understanding of the relevance of te ao Māori, tikanga, and mātauranga Māori in research programmes, teaching and/or service. The role will be ideal for outstanding candidates who possess these skills, have disciplinary interests in any related area of the biological sciences, and who will thrive at the School. There are disciplines within the School that are underrepresented: these include plant pathology, microbiology, nutrition science, virology, global climate change, and biotechnology.  Candidates with the requisite skills, and with particular interests in these areas are also encouraged to apply.This is a fulltime (40 hours per week), permanent position.

You will, of course, need to have a doctorate in biological sciences or a related discipline, and experience for the role (please see the position description for details).  Quite apart from your academic credentials, as a member of the academic staff, you will also contribute to the development of the School’s vision, values, and mission, as it navigates its way through the exciting, but oftentimes challenging, waters of 21st century higher education in Aotearoa New Zealand.  You will therefore be collaborative, collegial, and engaged.You will be expected to establish an innovative research programme with opportunities for students and early career researchers, that will be competitive for external research funding opportunities. The successful applicant will also develop and lead teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels informed by best practices and current educational research, framed by Te Tiriti o Waitangi commitments, consistent with the University’s Strategic Plan, and the University’s Graduate Profile.
