Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunityWe seek to appoint a Māori Research Fellow for a 3-year fixed term part-time (40-80%) role. The purpose of the role is to develop a programme of research that promotes good emotional well-being among rangatahi Māori and establish a programme of study for the Cure Kids Child and Adolescent Mental Health focus.Reporting to Professor Terryann Clark, this part-time role will assist in coordinating a small research team, explore various research methodologies, assist in writing grants, write academic papers and working closely with Māori communities. Based in the School of Nursing (either in Te Taitokerau campus or Grafton), this role presents an opportunity to play a crucial role in the exploration of the components of mātauranga Māori that can be utilised in the mental health primary prevention and early intervention space in hāpori Māori.This will include a collaborative relationship with the Youth2000 study and other various projects to address youth mental health. Active participation in related scientific and community programmes will be encouraged.Primary responsibilities are: 1) Develop a programme of work to improve rangatahi Maori mental health with the PI, 2) undertaking literature reviews and synthesise evidence as appropriate 3) help to develop a set of research questions, methodologies, analyses (quant and qual) for a programme grant with the research team 3) preparing research grant applications and peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts and abstracts.This part-time role is on a three-year fixed-term contract, around 16-32 hours per week. The salary range for this role is $94,000 – $113,463 per annum depending on experience and qualifications.For more detailed information on the role accountabilities and requirements, please review this position description. Mō tō mātou rōpū | About the teamWe have a small collegial rangahau hauora whānau consisting of Professor Clark, and two other part time (0.2 FTE each) researchers/researcher fellows. We are also part of a wider research group that includes the Adolescent Health Research Group and other affiliation researchers.   He kōrero mōu | About youOur ideal candidate will hold a PhD in health or social sciences; i.e. public health, education, psychology or youth work or a related field within three years of applying. You will be able to conduct research independently and collaboratively within a team. Prior experience in a research-focused environment (e.g. post-graduate student, researcher, research advisor) in health or education, social sciences, psychology, or health services research.The candidate for this position should be collaborative, have excellent communication skills, and have proven expertise in working with rangatahi /Maori. An understanding of mātauranga Māori and tikanga are essential. We offer a dynamic and friendly working environment and are looking for an established researcher with socioecological experience in understanding child/youth/family health behaviours or outcomes. They will need to understand Māori data sovereignty principles, have experience working in the community in Aotearoa and understand Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity issues faced by rangatahi Māori.
