The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi

An opportunity is now available to join Te Kupenga Hauora Māori, a department within the Faculty of Medical Health Sciences, as a Professional Teaching Fellow teaching fundamental chemistry, biochemistry, and organic chemistry concepts as a part of our Hikitia Te Ora – Certificate in Health Sciences (CertHSc) programme.

This is a bridging/foundation education programme for Māori and Pacific students. This position will enable you to contribute to Māori Health curriculum planning, development and implementation. The CertHSc foundation programme is for one year and is aimed at bridging Māori and Pacific students from secondary school study or from the community into further study in the Faculty. This will at times require attending weekend and evening wānanga and related activities,

About you | He kōrero mōu

With a key focus on teaching, you will ideally have prior experience teaching at a secondary or tertiary level. You will be teaching the MAORIHTH 23H course and MAORIHTH 24H courses which will require you to hold a post-graduate qualification in a relevant academic discipline as well as experience in teaching and curriculum development at a tertiary level. Experience in developing educational material and an understanding of adult and bridging/foundational learning theory and practice.

In order to succeed, you will have excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks, and excellent oral and written communication skills. Having a willingness to learn new skills, develop new competencies, and have a commitment to quality and continuous improvement in all work are essential requirements for this position.At times, we host weekend and evening wānanga therefore some flexibility is required.
