Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunityThe Faculty of Engineering is seeking a Senior Technician to provide expert technical services to support the teaching and research activities of the Department of Mechanical & Mechatronics Engineering staff and students.You will manage the operations of the Mechatronics Laboratories based at the city campus within the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering and provide specialist technical support to academic staff, students, and industrial stakeholders, through the design, construction, Knowledge and maintenance of electrical and electromechanical equipment for instrumentation, data acquisition, and real-time control, which support the research and teaching activities.This is a full-time, 37.5 hours per week, permanent role. The salary range for this role is $66,600 - $82,200 per annum depending on experience and qualifications.For more detailed information on the role accountabilities and requirements, please review this position description. Mō tō mātou rōpū | About the teamOur Faculty of Engineering has grown to over 5,000 students – our undergraduate first-year intake includes over 800 students yearly and continues to increase. We now have over 500 postgraduate students in both research and taught programmes.You will be joining a 14-strong team of technical staff providing specialist support to the Department of Mechanical & Mechatronics Engineering staff and students. The team is split 50/50 between the City Campus and the Newmarket Campus. We contribute technical knowledge and expertise to research and teaching activities while ensuring the ongoing operation and compliance of a vast range of laboratories, research equipment and teaching facilities.This position primarily supports the city campus laboratories within the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering. The City Campus group of laboratories includes Industry 4.0 Smart Manufacturing Systems, Microsystems, Mechatronics, 3D Printing, Dynamics & Control, Brain-Computer Interface, Motion capture,  Vibration, Bio-Medical device and Acoustics laboratories. He kōrero mōu | About youWe seek someone with a Tertiary Qualification in Electronics/Electrical/Mechatronics   Engineering and work experience in Mechatronics, 3D printing and Robotics. We would prefer you to have experience working in the tertiary environment. It would also be advantageous if you are registered with EWRB (electrical workers registration board) as an Electrical Appliance or Service Technician.   The successful applicant will be an autonomous Engineer/Technocrat, a self-learner and a great team player. You will ideally demonstrate the following:knowledge of software development, coding and debugging using LabVIEW, embedded C /CExcellent knowledge of instrumentation of mechanical and electromechanical systems and data acquisition, interfacing instrumentation with computers using data acquisition softwareKnowledge of 3D printing technologyProficiency in analogue electronics and digital circuits design and simulation (including PCB design)Ability to troubleshoot problems relating to equipment, computer software and infrastructureExcellent organisational and planning skillsAbility to work proactively, autonomously and in a teamExcellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly, and effectively disseminate knowledge and influence multiple stakeholder groups,resilience and ability to adapt to changing external/market demands, technology, and internal initiatives, which may require personal or professional developmentA health and safety focus Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou | What we offerThe University of Auckland is New Zealand's leading University and maintains significant computational, laboratory, and analytic facilities.
