Senior Software Engineer, Shop Opportunities

New Hampshire, Brooklyn 00000 Brooklyn USA

Vacancy expired!

Job Description

About the Team

The Shop Opportunities Team builds products for Etsy sellers to start and grow their businesses. As the Staff Engineer, you will play a meaningful role in building tools that ensure Etsy becomes the most valuable place for creative entrepreneurs to build and expand their businesses.

As a member of the team, you will help lead the team in pursuing product, process, and technical challenges such as:

  • How can we support sellers in crafting experiences that encourage their customers to make repeat purchases?
  • How do we empower sellers to grow their shops and businesses by recommending the right actions to take at the right time, using data?
  • From an engineering perspective, how can your experience support and guide the team through greenfield architectural decisions on top of an existing, growing codebase? How can we leave the code that we build on better than we found it?

Our production systems rely on PHP, JavaScript, Java, and Scala; we are proud to have an engineering culture that encourages career growth and learning. You can learn more about our philosophies, tools, and some of the challenges we’ve been solving on our Engineering blog: http://codeascraft.com/.

We are language-agnostic in our approach to interviewing.

Our team is open to both remote candidates and candidates located in Etsy’s Brooklyn HQ.

For candidates who will work remotely from Colorado, visit this link for information related to Colorado's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

Qualifications

About You

You will do well in this role if you:

  • Are a strong communicator and collaborator. You recognize that the best systems are built by teams that have strong communication practices, and you have experience nurturing this on teams you lead.
  • Lead by example, providing mentorship and direction to the team and help identify best practices and establish new ones.
  • Enjoy mentoring others on the team while making continuous process improvements.
  • Have a growth mindset and enjoy rapidly prototyping, running experiments, and quickly learning from results.
  • Have experience operating in a full-stack environment (bonus points if you've worked with experimentation frameworks previously).
  • Are passionate about the implications of your work on end-users. You hold experience in collaborating with Product Managers and Designers to take the product through all development stages and deliver impactful product development.
