Job Description

The Junior Engineer will play a key role with the Verisk Analytics Product team to help develop and document best in class solutions for the Product Engineering Organization. The role will require collaboration with key stakeholders within Verisk across the Product, Data Science and engineering organizations while building a client first ethos. The ideal candidate will have strong engineering and development expertise and preferably some experience working on products with Business Analysts, engineers and data scientists.

Responsibilities

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding the flow of data across the solution
  • Meticulous attention to detail for identifying gaps in data and architecture
  • Help optimize cost and performance for product processes and queues
  • Good Database Management and ETL skills
  • Manage UI performance and implement responsive designs or a curiosity to learn
  • Diligent in overseeing test cases to assess functionality, reliability, performance, and quality of the data in the product
  • Assist with product deployment into production
  • Investigate data and platform issues
  • Collaborate with other business analysts/product managers, to help clearly plan technical requirements
  • Documentation of data processes and expected results.
  • Work closely with the Data Science team.
  • Stay on top of industry updates through self-learning.
  • Comfortable working with offshore teams
  • Share advances, methodologies and best practices amongst the Engineering Community

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Math, Engineering or an analytics related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 2 year experience in software development with full stack experience preferred but not required.
  • Entry level candidates should have some of the technologies below covered in the college curriculum and must be able to explain projects that leveraged these.
  • Some experience in AWS Cloud services with certification is preferred
  • Experience in a few of the following AWS areas/fields/technologies is preferred
    • SQL, DynamoDB, Elastic Search, Postgres
    • AWS, Azure or GCP
    • S3, Lambdas, SQS, EC2, ASG scaling
    • Python
  • Full Stack Engineering Experience preferred but strong expertise in one of these areas with a willingness to learn the others is acceptable
    • Front-end UI – Angular, NodeJS, CSS
    • Back-end, UI and vendor APIs
    • SQL and NoSQL databases
    • Serverless compute - Lambda triggers
  • Proficiency in testing APIs using Postman, Talend, JMeter, or similar tools
  • JIRA and GIT experience is a plus
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills – written and in person
  • Positive and strong team player with a good work ethic
  • Ability to work independently or in a team
  • Thrives in a flexible work environment with a geographically distributed team.
