Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

The Associate Director for International Growth and Digital Enablement, leads the international sales and marketing functions to ensure optimisation of the market shift to digital recruitment.

You will demonstrate an energy, passion and a relentless drive for digital, you are responsible for supporting the University’s brand positioning offshore and driving strategy to achieve international sales targets.

Nearly 9,000 international students enrolled with the University in 2019, generating nearly $190m in tuition revenue. This position leads New Zealand’s premier international marketing and recruitment team to ensure the University benefits from current and future opportunities in digital branding, marketing, recruitment, Edtech, and other areas.

This role is multifaceted and will focus on your ability to support in the key area’s outlined below.

Planning and Strategy

  • Maintain market leading business intelligence in the fast-moving digital innovation space to identify opportunities for growth in efficiencies &/or recruitment, to support enrolment goals identified through the University’s strategic planning process.

Digital Leadership

  • Working with the Director International, Deputy Director International and relevant key stakeholders, lead the prioritisation of digital initiatives
  • Initiate, develop and implement a digital approach to marketing and advertising to position the University as best in market for international student recruitment

Team Management

  • Lead and inspire the sales and marketing team (9 staff) responsible for annual recruitment and enrolment of nearly 10,000 international students, in New Zealand and offshore, through direct and partnership programming building a culture of collaboration, innovation and performance.
  • Champion and coach ongoing improvement to track and measure all initiatives, campaigns and expenditure to monitor and report sales and marketing performance

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Navigates successfully within a fast-moving digital environment to ensure IO-led initiatives are in sync and conducive to the larger University direction in the digital landscape.
  • Creates strong working relationships with stakeholders; values the inputs of others, has empathy with other cultures and viewpoints, puts time and effort into being accessible to stakeholders

Under the direction of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Strategic Engagement, the International Office leads the University’s international partnership and engagement agenda. Supporting the University’s international objectives, the focus of the International Marketing and Recruitment team is international student recruitment and branding in key source markets

Through building strong partnerships, agent engagement, digital marketing, advertising and outreach and leveraging opportunities with internal and external stakeholder communities, the International Marketing and Business Development team promotes the University and recruits high achieving international students.

The University of Auckland enrols one in four of all international students in New Zealand’s universities and is the market and sector leader for innovation.

To be considered for this you have

University qualification in a field relevant to International Education and Marketing, or equivalent relevant experience in another field. It would be beneficial for you to have a postgraduate qualification in a field relevant to International Education and Marketing.

  • Over seven years’ experience in the International Education industry
  • Proven experience in stakeholder engagement, internally and externally
  • Experience in leading and managing successful teams
  • Experience working in an agile environment
  • Digital experience across sales and marketing in International Education

It would also be preferred for you to have experience within

edtech startup, marketing automation and digital conversion

and

central University marketing. It would be a bonus if you have functional proficiency in a foreign language spoken in one or more of the University’s key source markets.
