The School of Optometry and Vision Science (SOVS) operates a full scope optometry clinic with a large and diverse patient base on the Grafton campus, and a mobile optometry clinic providing full service via the Vision Bus Aotearoa (VBA). The VBA operates in partnership with various community-based organisations including schools in the Auckland region and marae.We are seeking a clinical tutor in optometry (official title Professional Teaching Fellow) in the School of Optometry and Vision Science from March 2026. The role is fixed-term for 3 years due to the funding arrangements.This role will be based primarily on the Vision Bus Aotearoa, which visits community-based organisations and locations around the Auckland region and beyond, with some activities based on the Grafton campus. From time to time it will be necessary to drive the mobile clinic to a site and set up equipment for the day’s activities.As part of the role, you will also provide clinical teaching and supervision in the teaching clinics and potentially pre-clinical laboratories, and at times provide optometric services to the public. Administrative activities associated with the coordination of courses may also form part of your responsibilities.Applicants should hold a current Annual Practising Certificate as an optometrist in New Zealand, or be eligible to obtain this by the time of employment beginning. This is a part-time position (0.6 FTE, three full days between 8:30am-5:30pm).The salary range for this position is $105,791 - $139,199 (pro rated) depending on skills and experience.For more detailed information, please refer to the Position Description.

We are the only Optometry school in New Zealand, and one of eight schools in the region with accreditation from the Optometry Council of Australia and New Zealand. Our accreditation enables graduates to practice optometry in New Zealand and in Australia without the need to undertake additional examinations. The university operates a full scope optometry clinic, with a large and diverse patient base, at its Grafton Campus as well as external clinics at other sites.He kōrero mōu | About you
