Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

Join a dynamic team driven by the practice of kaupapa Māori principles and committed to making a positive change to Māori, secondary, tertiary and health outcomes. Whakapiki Ake is a dedicated Māori Health workforce programme, positioned in a unique setting, in Te Kupenga Hauora Māori, Faculty of Medical Health Sciences, University of Auckland.

This is an opportunity to co-design and collaborate to tell our Whakapiki Ake stories using your innovation and skills. These skills will include implementing, analysing, and transforming data into relevant content to promote stories and messages via social media channels, YouTube, website, print, and reports. Whakapiki Ake wants to increase reach and access to rangatahi, whanau, iwi and community by promoting rangatahi & whānau success. The role is an opportunity to make a positive impact and change to benefit Māori. Telling our stories using your creative thinking, doing things differently, social innovation and keeping sight of the big picture is an exciting opportunity.

Your passion for kaupapa Māori will guide your ability to capture the work we do and create meaningful content and stories that resonate with our broader Whakapiki Ake whānau.

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills

We're looking for someone who has a range of qualities, experiences and skills that include:

  • An experienced and impactful Communications professional
  • Excellent skills in spoken and written English, including writing for the web
  • Demonstrated understanding of utilising social media/website to enhance communications·
  • Knowledge and experience in using digital tools
  • A NZ tertiary bachelor’s degree
  • A full and clean driver’s licence
  • To be confident in your level of Te Reo Māori (Māori language) to co-design and collaborate within the diverse communities WAP operates in (e.g. Māori hapū/iwi and University academic and professional staff)
  • The ability to on occasion travel outside the Auckland region

You'll also be highly motivated, honest, have a strong work ethic, outcome-driven, and act in an inclusive manner with integrity to ensure the diversity and mana of our all-inclusive Whakapiki Ake whānau/community are upheld.
