What you'll be doing

The Director of Device Planning and Commercialization is an influential and strategic role that is critical to the design, development, and deployment of wide ranging, cutting-edge technologies and services on the multitude of wireless and wireline Verizon device offerings.

This Director is be responsible for tracking Verizon and industry network technology plans and ensuring that the wireless device roadmap (across business channels) is enabled to support the technical and business needs of the company. This role oversees the development of detailed technical requirements,hardware and software architecture to support the business requirements of the various device offerings. In addition, the Director is also be responsible for developing device and application test plans and processes to validate the new wireless technologies and associated applications.

The Director will be responsible for managing a large team ofhighly proficient subject matter experts in the field of 3GPP and Device Authentication,planning strategies and commercializing 5G Device Network features and services on the Verizon Network. The Director will be responsible for ensuringalignment with cross functional leadership teams across Verizon to help strategize network deployment of new features in toy cells, getting software support from OEMs / Chipset vendors and conduct field trials to validate network features and services for Consumer and IoT products.

Responsibilities

• Provide critical planning support for the multi-billion-dollar network capital investments through the planning of device specifications, network validation activities, network deployment activities, and device launch. • Provide test planning support to ensure billions of dollars of retail devices are available in the retail stores and enterprise channels. • Provide critical technical support for the various device franchises providing $100Ms of revenue. • Plan, design, and enable device build of material cost savings. • Work collaboratively with key modem vendors (Qualcomm, Intel, Marvell, Sequans, etc.) to deliver new features and products for the retail and enterprise channels. • Develop future looking 2-5-year strategy for Device impacting Network features in 5G Realm ofSA, Network Slicing, VoNR, RedCap, Private Networks, Rel 17 features and beyond. • Develop long term strategies and commercialize new authentication mechanisms (Password- less) for Mobile devices, Wearable Technologies, Carrier Applications and IoT products. • Build relationships with our External partners (RAN vendors, Chipset Vendors, OEM partners) to help build quality products that work best on Verizon's network. • Lead the team that executes commercializingnew 5G technology on Verizon's network. • Track new network technologies, review evolving standards, vendor proposals and industry publications and assess impact to Verizon's Network. • Work with 5G ecosystem and Enterprise product teams to incubate and accelerate validation of the technology. • Develop new products and supporting device vendors in execution of trial work to verify new technologies. • Model, simulate, and analyze new features and their interactions with new and known future features and technologies. The analysis shall include the impacts of the new feature on UX and network resources • Develop device / application testing and evaluation tools

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; Master's degree is preferred. • 10+ years of telecommunications R&D experience with a modem chipset platform vendor or device manufacturer. • 5+ years of people leadership experience. • Conceptual knowledge of the major hardware and software subsystems that comprise a wireless device with 5+ years of developing technology in one or more of these subsystems. • Knowledge of the mobile telecommunications industry, including experience with handset manufacturers, network equipment vendors, and/or chipset vendors. • Proven success providing design and implementation leadership for cross-functional teams (Device, Marketing, Network, IT, etc.). • Effective project management, problem-solving, communication and analysis skills, with the ability to execute complex analysis to support technology, product strategy, working in a fast-paced environment. • Proven experience working with cross-functional stakeholders and influencing top-level leadership. • Experience structuring and implementing complex analyses to support strategy and ability to draw insights and implications from complex datasets and make actionable recommendations. • Ability to keep up emerging technology, communicate the changes in the external world, implications to Verizon and developing a call to action. • Great written and verbal communications skills with the ability to effectively communicate in confrontational situations. • Experience with wireless communication protocols including LTE, CDMA, UMTS / HSPA, GSM / GPRS / EDGE, SIP, WiFi, SUPL, OMA-DM, TCP/UDP/IP, IPSEC. • Proven success leading large teams consisting of highly proficient subject matter experts.
